Re: Aluminium grill ??

I have that same grille on my '77. It's doable without a cable release, but it's a very tight fit between the second and third bars. I have relatively long thin fingers so it's not to diffucult for me. Terry

Re: Aluminium grill ??

I have a grille similar to that on my Suburban. I am able to slide my fingers between it to pop the hood, it's a non-issue for me. It flexes right back.

Judging from the bent slats in that pic, that grille probably has a little give to it, as well...

Cut out theopening you need or retrofit an interior hood release set up.

Re: Aluminium grill ??

Doesn't the interior release JUST release the hood. Isn't the safety latch still in the grill ? I've never had an inside release on a 70's truck, though when asking about converting to it I was told this is a case. I may have been given bad info though.

Is there someone here who knows for sure and has actually owned a truck with one ? If the safety latch gets moved to the leading edge of the hood on the underside like it should be, then this would be the setup to have.

Re: Aluminium grill ??

Maybe you could make a hooked rod to pull on the release through the grille? Truthfully, opening the hood on mine with a billet grille is no problem.

Re: Aluminium grill ??

I have one on my 79 and I hate it. My fingers are not fat or short but I have a hard time opening it. I also have to push down on the hood to get it to pop and it hurts my fingers because of the weird angle. I’ll be replacing it pretty soon.

Thanks for confirming that. I wasn't necessarily interested in running a billet grill, just wanting to keep people honest and make sure the hood can't be popped without access to the inside.

The right billet grille looks good. Seeing as my 77 now doesnt have a front clip, a grille is the last of my worrries lol.

Re: Aluminium grill ??

Yeah the 75-76 is a little rare. I believe the 78-79 grill is still in production if you like the look.

I’ll send you mine for $50 plus ship. It’ll give me a reason to get one I like.

The grill not the seat.

Re: Aluminium grill ??

I have no trouble with mine. It bends the bars to get my hand in there but the y bounce right back. Mine was kinda pricey but very good quality.

Re: Aluminium grill ??

I believe LMC still makes a no logo reproduction of the 1980 egg crate grill if you want something not seen so much.
