Front Disk brake conversion on my 70 C20?
Can somebody please educate me on what I need to convert my front brakes to disk, on my 70 C20? All the threads I searched were 1/2 tons , so I just wanted to double check with the board and see if I have this correct?
From what I have read I can just use the disk set up from a 73-88 3/4 ton? Anything special I need? Thanks, Josh Last edited by ranger2339; 05-23-2010 at 11:41 PM. |

Re: Front Disk brake conversion on my 70 C20?
I just did this to mine. If your using `72 spindles you'll need upper and lower ball joints for a `72 and the center steering link wit `72 outer tie rods. If you don't have the center link you can buy an adjustment sleeve that has both diameters on it as the outer tie rod ends on the `72 are bigger than the stock `70 outer threads. You'll need a mastercylinder and a proportioning valve for disc brakes. My C 20 had a long rod in the booster and I had to shorten it to work wit the disc brake master cyl. My booster is the small one and new so a machine shop cut the rod shorter and re threaded for the adj screw in the end of the rod. There are alot of guys on here that can probably explain it better. Good Luck.

Yes, 71-87 parts are a straight swap. Everything you have researched about 1/2 tons is the same as 3/4 ton, just heavier parts and more wheel lugs.
Either do the arm/ spindle swap or the entire side-to-side swap as you see fit using a 3/4 ton donor.

Re: Front Disk brake conversion on my 70 C20?
Awesome thanks a ton guys. Ill prob. just buy a complete truck and swap over what I can, my steering components are in poor shape anyway.
My truck is 2wd, can I use a 4x4 truck for a doner, and just 86 the 4x4 stuff? Thanks, Josh Last edited by ranger2339; 05-25-2010 at 05:01 PM. |
