Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

Personal preference. It's whatever a person wants in their truck. If I was going to use mine for working or hauling I would leave it long. For just driving and looks I prefer the shortbeds.

I wouldn`t chop a frame unless it was for a pro-street.

I love a long bed and its staying that way. You never know when you need the long bed. They can cruise right with the short beds. I had a ridin mower in the back and was cruisin the walmart parking lot and drove it down mainstreet.

Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

I'm for whatever works,my one ton would look silly as a short bed but the short step I use to push snow works good in small parking lots..............Shortened the mud truck to lose weight overall and transfer some weight to the rear axle

Because the short beds are more popular. No disrespect to you long bed lovers, but the facts are the facts. The majority of truck enthusiasts prefer the sporty look of a short bed.

Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

Im a long bed kinda guy.. personally i see no use for shortbeds except for a truck that isnt to be used as a truck. I have a shortbed truck that i got a steal on ( ECSB ford F150) and its hard to work with.. Luckilly i have my chevy reg cab long bed or id be sunk sometimes.
I need the long bed cause its easier to haul wood and sheetrock and all the other things i need for the home improvements i do. It also seems to haul alot more trash than the shortbed. I wouldnt have even bought the ford if i didnt need the extended cab for the baby seats

this will always be the never ending debate.....

as it was mentioned already "LOOKS & LOOKS" is the only reason why most people prefer a short bed....

Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

I have two long beds and I will not cut them, I guess it is the purest in me. I do however love the look of a short bed on a two wheel drive. Longbeds look best to me as a four wheel drive.
Shortbeds, fake or real, can pull in more money if you are going to sell.

Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

generally speaking i prefer longbed trucks whether there two or four wheel drive.for some reason i always have.however in my time i have seen some really nice shortbed two wheel drives and if i ever built a truck just to be sporty i would use a lowered two wheel drive shorty.

Why would a Harley be in the bed of a truck, instead of being ridden?

Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

To each their own personal preference, however, I wouldn't throw either out of my driveway.

SWB's generally bring more money.

As expected all you LWB lovers are loosing track of the question. He didn't ask why you would never own a SWB he asked why are people converting LWB to SWB.

Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

SWB will sell for more $$. Also, at least in my area, there are very few swb frames around to build on so cutting a lwb frame is a good option.

Okay, it is because we got tired of looking for a short bed in our price range and figured we could just buy a long bed and cut it down to try to fit in.

Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

To end the debate I say we take this to the extremes. One of us can build a 4 foot bed and the other a 12 foot bed.
who wants to play.......

Re: Longbed vs. Shortbed

They get a long bed and cut it down to a short because they want it to look short, squatty, and out of proportion.....

j/k...I've had both and like them both. But I do prefer the look of a lowered longbed

Of course, as everyone else said, the reason people buy the longs and convert them to short is to get them cheaper than they could get a shorty in comparable condition....because short beds are worth more......for now
