Exclamation Need help to verify a Suburban roof rack

Hey everyone,
I am about to complete the purchase of the roof rack that I have attached in the pictures for my 62 burb and I wanted to get confirmation that it is the right one. Here is what I know.
  1. It is from a Nomad
  1. Its 5 inches tall, 53 inches wide and 60 inches long. the bars them selves are 49 inches but it is 53 at the base of the legs.
  1. He said the bars on each end are flattened and not round.
  1. The guy is having a hard time getting it apart and thinks he will need to drill out the screws. Can something of these dimensions be sent at a decent price without tearing it apart?
Any input would be great.
Thanks again,
AJ

Re: Need help to verify a roof rack

you might be able to use fedex ground and leave it as is to ship.
I almost might suggest using a 2X6 around the perimeter, so they dont smash it, they can be quite rough on stuff at times...

areotruk63 has posted pics of a factory roof rack before, but I don't know where, this seems to have the right look

Re: Need help to verify a roof rack

I am dying on shipping. This thing is too damn big! boxed up we are looking at 55 inches wide by 62 inches long by about 8 inches tall.
Anyone have any luck sending something about that size without going into the $100 plus price range?
Thanks,
AJ

Did you try usps? It's always been cheaper than ups and fed ex for me. I have not shipped anything that large though.

Re: Need help to verify a roof rack

My bedrails were shipped in sections. There were two screws to hold the each pipe to the towers. Looks like there's a single set screw on the roof rack that allows the towers to rotate on the pipe. Steel set screw-pot metal towers. Don't think they'll come loose to rotate the towers to make the package thinner.
I have a similar roof rack that I got off a van in Sparks Nv. The rails do not come out of the towers. They are flattened to prevent the wind passing over the tubes from creating vibration and noise.
They sell the original style fasteners that hold the towers to the roof. Basically a rubber T like a rivet with a threaded brass insert. When you tighten the Philips oval head machine screw the rubber T mushrooms and holds the towers in place.
I have the mounting instructions in my trailer but it's jammed up against a row of cedars that have iced over from the ice storm that just went through.

Re: Need help to verify a roof rack

wouldnt they all be similar but different? I mean back then any accesory the dealer installed would be from a local or pretty nearby manufacturer, these werent installed at GM were they?

Re: Need help to verify a roof rack

that definately looks like the suburban rack... other than the roof runners, it all breaks down pretty easily. what i did was omit the runners and just used the framework. then applied more modern runners that were sticky back aftermarket. the aftermarket runners looked better because the original ones never contoured to my roof.
don't know if this helps you or if this is anything you might consider but there it is...
