Autometer behind the Factory Bezel
After quite a few weeks in running the gauges down and of course the Buying them. (three came off of E-bay so I had to do the Auction Bidding process time) I started doing the install yesterday, and this is where I'm at today... I have some final mounting in the back, and wiring the gauge lights. also also the Turn signals, and high beam indicator.. No problem just time consuming..
I hope to get it in the truck this coming week..

that does look nice! is that two oil pressure gauges? or is the smaller a oil temp gauge? couldn't figure it out, but still looks great

GOOD EYE 7gmc2,, yea it's two oil pressure gauges right now....
 I used the 2 oil pressure gauges instead of a water temp, Only because of the Water temp capillary tube... I got tired of trying to keep moving around it and was afraid I may break it bending it so much.. I'll put the water temp where the Big Oil pressure is now.. As far as wiring goes,, They are all Mechanical except the Amps, and Fuel Level.then I just need to combine all of the gauge light wires together. I need to come off the stock dash wiring plug for the headlight high beam indicator light, along with the turn signal indicator lights. But the circuit board for the wiring is self explanatory and very easy to follow where the wires run to, So no problem tracing them to the plug. I'll take some pictures when I tear it apart to re-install the gauges for keeps.. It was very easy to do, Just a Jig saw and tin snips to cut some of the sheetmetal. (of course a cut thumb, and poked finger )The green piece of sheetmetal that is inside the cluster stays in but with some cutting modifications, along with the metal plate that bolts to the rear of the bezel. It was far easier then I had anticipated, Just some trial fitting and contemplating... BUT,,, Good Luck on finding the center 3-3/8" gauge......

I was thinking about doing the same thing with my bezel because the gauges are iffy and I don't like the Billet Aluminum look. Along the same lines, the crome edging on the factory bezel is patchy. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it look good? I was thinking of just painting the whole thing black.

Dick,,, go check out your local hobby shop, might find some ideas there, if they sell RC cars even better, might be able to find some cool paints, or maybe even a chrome tape that might work, maybe a light black over the chrome, for a black chrome effect, or just gauges that mount flush with th frony of the bezel, just a few i deas i have looked at,

The large gauges are just standard Autometer "IN DASH" units, My tach is a 5" INDASH tach, I believe you could use a 5" monster tach, with memory and internal shift light.. ( I'm not positive of that, but the outside dimensions are the same) The center gauge where the factory tach was, Is a 3-3/8" This is the tough one....... They are a 55 series. The oil pressure is a 5505, and the water temp is a 5507. The fuel level was 5514.. The problem is, Autometer has deleted this size from their line up. I bought these two off of ebay they were new in bubble wrap. There are still a couple of White background ones left on the shelves. When they are gone that's it. So if you're thinking of doing this, you'll want to at least get this sized gauge right away.. The 4 lower ones are 2-5/8".. The line up of this size has many different gauge options. You choose.. Called to all the local part stores for the Fuel Level gauge (5514) and no one knows were to get one. Any Ideas? I would rather have one non- matching gauge than a gaping hole if i decide to do this change. If anyone has one, let me know and I will buy it off you.

I found at black face 3 3/8 inch guage yesterday while surfing a site someone posted over on GD. Its not an autometer but its black and its a clock. Would look good IMO in the middle hole.
