Seat Belts - 1969 Chevrolet C10 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My truck has the original brown or tan seat belts that are in good shape physically, but slight dirty or discolored. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean the fabric so that they look new again? Are replacements available anywhere?

OK ya gona think I am crazzy, oh wait ya already do.....
anyway

1. take the seat belts out of the truck

2. on the retractable side pull it all the way out and pin it so it will not retract

3 place all pices in the dish washer and run, don't forget to add the soap.

4. when done remove and let hang dry

5. while hanging spray some WD-40, PB Blaster, ect, in the buckles and retract mechanisms to displace any water and to prevent rust. then any wipe excess off and let them hand untill dry.

they should come fairly clean. depending on how stained they are.

I used the dishwasher method too on another car but see my edits to the procedure...

I just did mine. Put good ol Ivory dish soap (liquid) in a bucket of hot water and used a short bristle brush then rinsed with the garden hose and they came out really nice.

I just did a set of medium blue belts this same way for my 66 Impala except I used liquid Tide laundry detergent. It worked perfectly! The water looked as dark brown as Iced tea when I was done!!!

What I did to even the color out was to soak them in dark blue fabric dye. Because belt webbing doesn't really dye like fabric will, they only took on some of the color so when dry, they were a perfect medium shade of blue and looked like brand new. I couldn't be happier with the results.

lol yeah they are! I cleaned my steering wheel in the dishwasher lol (bought it on ebay--stock steering wheel--and it was all grimy and sticky), its like new now lol

I did mine in the kitchen sink with dish soap and a scrub brush. It had the same shock value as water from a carpet cleaner. It was instant brown.

If the wife gets to upset about using the dishwasher just keep an eye out in the paper for an old portable one.

I have a fridge (refreshments), portable dishwasher (cleaning small parts), washer and dryer (shop rags and dingy cloths) and old electric stove (for future powder coating) for the garage. Keeps the little lady happy, besides if she ever kicks my butt to the garage for good I'd be set.
