Hello from Texas!
I'm new to this forum and wanted to share with y'all my recent purchase.
A 1970 Chevrolet Custom Camper/20! She needs some work, but I think she has good bones for now. Had to buy a radiator today. I'm on the lookout for the under bed tool storage door. It is MIA. I'll be getting rid of the bed shell (topper) soon. I bought her from the second owner of this very original truck. The PO and his family had a pickup camper on her and towed their boat as well putting about 145,000 miles on her. The first owner put about five thousand miles on her when she was new in a tour of Mexico in the spring of 1970. I hope to bring her back to "better than new" condition in the near future. I am in the vintage travel trailer restoration business, so restoring an ol' truck fits with my lifestyle. Here are a couple of pics. Look forward to learning some new things here on this great forum and enjoying my new truck! |

Re: Hello from Texas!
Welcome from Central Florida! Great truck. Good luck on your stowage door search, they are rare and most of them rusted out (like the one I have). If you are a subscribing member ($25) you can post a WTB (want to buy) thread in the parts forum. This forum is the best thing going when dealing with our trucks.

A Scotty Man huh?
Quote:
The PO has a NOS door that he paid $250 for but said it was 2" too short. Don't know much about it. I'm sure he will be selling it soon. I'm an Airstream guy and I plan to tow my 1972 Airstream Ambassador with this truck, so I might just rivet me up a new door out of some aluminum to match the aux gas filler door on the other side. What do you think?

How about an updated picture of your truck without the topper...

Thank you all so very much!
Thanks for all the welcomes! Nice to have a warm welcome
So yesterday morning I went outside to start the truck up and she fired up like any good truck from 1970 will on a cold morning. I then went inside to get my stuff and when I went back outside, there was coolant dripping on the driveway at a steady rate. Dang! The ol' boy I bought her from has kept records of all maintenance and service he has performed on her. When I looked at his last entry on the coolant page, I saw he wrote in September of this year "Drained, flushed and added new coolant and LEAK STOP" Grrrr Well, the stop leak lasted long enough to pass the test drive! In 2004 there is an entry for the radiator being repaired, so I didn't figure I'd want to chance another repair. I ordered a new radiator from Advance Auto parts online with a coupon for 25% off If you need a new radiator now is the time. $179 to my door with the coupon code RADX. So I guess my first little project this weekend will be installing a new radiator

PICKMUP has a nice tool box door with trim for sale. I wanted to buy it, but can't come up with the money. He wants $200.00 shipped.

I see this forum doesn't have a "Thank You" button like on another forum I'm a member. It is also known as a "Karma" button. That would be a nice addition to this forum. I also see that the MODS don't let you have your web site in your signature without paying to "Advertise". Interesting.

Re: Hello from Texas!
Welcome to the boards from somewhere besides Texas. You will become addicted to these trucks, but don't worry, you have lots of company. Very nice looking truck and a good starting point for what you want to do - keep posting pictures!
