Paint Question and Tag location?

Hi, I am the new owner of my first old truck. Its a 51" Chevy 3100 216. A couple of questions right off the bat,
- The color is blue and looks very old, hard to tell if its original. The cab and door jams are not painted blue, but rather a brownish red? Just wondering if this is how they were painted.
-Second question is where can I find the location of the paint or body tag? I can't find it anywhere.
- Last the 216 has a knock at all temps, It doesn't sound like its coming from the lower end. Any suggestions on where to start?
Thanks for any and all help in advance!

I think most of the '51 truck paint codes are here:

The last 216 that I had that knocked had a broken piston, that wrist pin eventually found the pavement:(

Here's the factory color chart.

There's some debate on interior colors still. You would think after 60+ years, we'd have it straight by now.

Most interiors were a grey or beige in color. Browns and other colors were typically accent colors. I have seen lower door panels painted red though.

Re: Paint Question and Tag location?

As far as I know there are no body tags on 47/53 trucks that show either paint or trim codes. The good thing about that is if you are wanting to restore one to show room stock you don't have to worry about matching the body tag paint code to be a "perfect" restoration. As you have the correct paint code for the year model you are good. One thing to note, before 1954 there were no "factory" two tone paint jobs.

The only interior color I have seen on 53 and earlier is that some sort of light brown color that is on them and possibly a gray on 52 or 53. It does cover the door jambs.

That may be some sort of primer. You can see it under the green on this firewall.
The truck it's self was pained what looks like 66 Chevy Marina blue but the paint on the firewall is a light green that looks original.

Re: Paint Question and Tag location?

The 54 parts truck I bought, is actually blue (combined with rust.) The drivers side looks more of a green color. I think it has to do with oxidation and the paint fading. I did drag it out of a pasture after a 20 year slumber after all.
