Freebie.......69 Utility Truck

I just picked this up yesterday. My good friends father-in-law knew I liked these old trucks and asked if I wanted this one.

I did a 500 mile round trip to Alamosa Colorado to drop off a 2940 John Deere to get some work done, then to Espanola New Mexico to get the truck.

It hasn't been registered since 95. He said his dad did a little work to it and then parked it. We didn't try to start it, so when I got home, I pulled the plugs and squirted in some Marvel Mystery Oil. The plugs all looked like it had been running a little rich.

It has a Purolator electric fuel pump. The oil still looks very clean. It has some typical rust issues, but the grill and bumper are in excellent shape.

I'm about to head out and drain the gas tank, put in some fresh gas and see if she will fire up. I don't know what I am going to do with it, but I couldn't turn down free!

Enough rambling. Here's the pics.

A couple more pics.

It does have a 292. The spid is interesting for a base model truck.

I've got to make it run first! I do have some Turbine 6 lugs rims to put on it.
I also have a good stepside bed that will take the place of the utility bed.
But, if it doesn't run, then I will just park it till I get some other projects done.

No doubt in my mind that 292 will fire right up. Great engine.. I would pour a little gas in the carb for the first try.

Oh man, sweet score! My vote is to leave the utility bed.. Pretty rare (at least around here) to see a utility truck of that age.. Especially a shortbed.

Re: Freebie.......69 Utility Truck

Pretty cool score. There's a guy trying to sell a '53 Chevy 1 on with a utility bed on it, it was a school district truck for a million years. I'd like to have a 1 ton AD and make a nice flat bed out of it. That one will be a nice project.

Dig it, dig it ...dig it! I'm thinking too, leave the utility body, altitude adjustment and drive that thing! What a hit at the cruise nights!

Re: Freebie.......69 Utility Truck

I'm adding to the leave the utility bed opinion. That ones got a neat shape to it, with the angled back. Kinda looks like a mini firetruck IMHO.

Re: Freebie.......69 Utility Truck

Leave the utility bed. From the shape of the rear of that UB it is a former "Ma Bell" truck.

Re: Freebie.......69 Utility Truck

x3 on the Bell Tel unit. That's one of the last years of the traditional green trucks before they went to white and light gray with the reflective blue & yellow around the middle. There are people who collect telephone company stuff. I bet some one would pay big bucks for that thing restored to original. Or,you could bring back actually giving service to households with phone problems in their house (translate router manual instructions ). Remember when a phone was a phone and when you got a new one it was just a matter of chosing a color and wall or desk top? That is,if for some strange reason the phone didn't last 25 years or more. Remember they would actually come in your house, hook it up,and even help you figure out any problems? Now you hook it up,phones last a couple years, and and you're on your own if they fail.
Back to the truck...yeah,I'd see it as a quick little slap the Stepside on bop around chore truck, too.
