Heater control valve ideas needed

hello, its getting warmer and id like to shut off circulation to the core so the cab will not get so hot, i dont want to block off totally as im afraid to build rust in a dry heater core. here are some pics and i need some ideas or a little guidance on the best way to take care of this. thanks.

there are cable controled valves that go into the heater hose under the hood.Now where to get them I'm not sure.

ive looked on line at one way in one way out kinda deals. but that would only stop the flow into the core. what about back into the pump? or am i missing something?

you can just put a shut off valve in the line, it doesn't need to flow through, open it up every once in a while if you are worried about rust.

would that be the one into the manifold or the pump? also would n't i still have hot water in the core?

I snagged one off an old VW Jetta at a wrecking yard for one of my projects. It cost me next to nothing. It is an inline valve that uses a cable to open and close. I hooked it up to a pull lever that looks like a floor vent lever. Heater cores are like brass or copper or what not. don't worry about rust. If it is rust sediment buildup from the iron engine you are concerned with, perhaps it is time to clean and flush your cooling system, maybe?

A good counter man should find you one for a cable control. I've used them and didn't hook up the cable, when fall came I would turn it open and close it in the spring! Every now and then I would let it circulate, but I think they are designed to always let a little water pass. A quick google showed a bunch.

Looks like you can hide that valve right under that Battery you have on the fire wall. Just put it on the hose that feeds water to the core (the one off the pump). Though, with no water moving. It really doesn't make a big difference what line. In or out, no water is coming or going to the core.

NAPA has cable operated ones in both or metal and plastic.
I used a plastic one part #660-1141 $20.00

it doesn't pull anything. hot water from the front of the intake goes out ton the heater, the water is returned to the suction side of the water pump. If you want to block it off for the summer install a valve or your choice in the hot water feed from the manifold to the heater.

i used the vintage air 50507 sevro heater valve. worked good for me. but its $90 from summit racing
