307 2 barrel Choke problem

Was looking around cant figure anything out. I dont like the fact that my tuck smokes the neighborhood out when starting it, plus louder than hell at choke Idle, its about 2.5k to 3k till i slap the thottle after a min or 2 dead summer 80+ and then i get normal idle. I disconnected the expanding heat coil mounted to the motor, could slap it down right away. I think that part is bad, but its always been a pain in the ass, could be alot more than that just havent really spent any time to fix it just been playing with it for a week or so. The machanic down the road just said to hell with it and put in a manual one, Dont know how to though, assuming not to hard? it has a divorced choke on it. any tips for converting maybe to manual choke or should i try to replace stuff? Runs real good after i get it to drop down. I rebuilt it awhile ago probably 2 years ago and the problem has just gotten worse over the last year, from what i remembered it used to not have a super high idle on choke.
