Parking brake cable
I am trying to get parking cable routed correctly so does it go above or below transmission crossmember? This is on a short box truck not sure if that matters.

Re: Parking brake cable
Thanks I have looked at the LMC catalog and actually ordered two of the #9 and 1 of the #10 cable hold downs. I dont think the #10 actually works for a short bed truck since I can not find anywhere it would attach. I did have the parking cable above the crossmember but did not seem correct. I recently moved it under the cross member but the adjusting rod points down at the ground and looks funny from a distance. The parking cable has been unhooked since my dad had the transmission replaced in the 80's. I used the search engine and even tried to google the parking brake cable but have come up empty so far.

Re: Parking brake cable
Yes the parking brake cable goes above the crosmember.
Cable guide #10 in the picture is around 19 inches long and also goes over the crosmember. The cable guide on the drivers side is about 4 inches ling and the one on the passengers side is a little bit longer.

Re: Parking brake cable
Just a couple more pictures.
This picture shows where that 19 inch long cable guide hooks through the passenger‘s side frame.

Re: Parking brake cable
This picture shows how there is more than one hole for the short cable guide on the passengers side.
The second picture shows how that cable guide on my 75 C10 has a ½” long end pointing at the gas tank. That looks scary I will have to fix that.

Re: Parking brake cable
Hey thanks again for the pictures I would have struggled big time trying to find where that cable rod hooked to. Any tips on adjusting parking brake cable?

Re: Parking brake cable
Ok once you have the 3 cable guides hooked in to the frame hook the cable (part # 2) through them.
Then you place part #6 over the cable and slide it on to the threaded rod and put the nut on the threaded rod. Then you tighten the nut down until you can only push the parking brake pedal down 3 clicks You will need a ½ wrench, vice grips and probably extra hands.
