Where did you find your first truck????
After reading some of these threads I thought it would be interesting to find out where you found your first 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck. I found my truck in the "Truck Trader" and it was in a scrap yard in northern Tn. Guy had to many projects and he said he had to get rid of a few of them. After I picked up the truck he said he wished he a dozen more trucks because his phone was ringing of the hook. Ok...thats where I found my first truck...how about you.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
I came home from work one day and saw it sitting in the driveway. My neighbor owed my dad money for some work he did and gave him the truck as payment. After he got it my dad realized how much work the truck was going to need and didn't want to mess with it. I thought it was cool and sold my 71 Dart to buy it from him. I kind of got screwed on the deal, but I couldn't imagine being without my truck.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
We found my truck while attending a farm auction in 2002. Here's a picture of where it sat when we found it. paid 1200 for it I could tell you the exact spot it sat when we bought it, but i would probably be standing in someone's living room. There's a subdivision built up where it was.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
My dad worked with the guy that I bought mine from.
He got the truck handed down to him from his father-in-law, which was the original owner. Then, when his son turned 16, he gave him the truck. His son did not want the truck, and gave it up for a newer vehicle. Just a few months ago, I saw the guy again. That was cool. |

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
Bought my first in 1976 . 72 GMC short step , converted it to a Chevy , what a dumb a%^ . Sold it to a friend who put an LT1 ( the old LT1) in it with a Muncie 4 speed , got it sideways one night and hit a tree , totalled it . Maybe i shouldn't have sold that one , lol.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
My '70 came from eBay. This truck gives PO jerry-rigged a new meaning. Lesson number one, never buy a truck sight unseen!
My '69 came from a farm in Chino CA. It had been parked under a walnut tree and the cowl area was rusted out. But it started up and I drove it home. The only original parts of that truck worth saving are the LWB fleetside bedsides, the engine/tranny, the bench seat, the frame and suspension, and the driver side fender. Lesson number 2, never buy a rust bucket! Dano

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
Mine 1st I bought from a friend 2nd owner,1200 bucks
it was a 71 longbed fleet air cab, factory tilt w/the highlander package. \I got rid of it for 800.00 bucks I regret getting rid of that one everyday but now I have this. I got this from a guy that was going through a divorce, found out about from a friend he only wanted cash, 5k bought it the next day... hence my quote, my wife didn't talk to me for about a week now she don't mind it too much being in the garage and the fact that she's since seen these vehicles more like an investment anyway think I did okay on the price?? the buddy buckets came with it I just had to install them and bunch of other new parts icluding the tilt, and the wheel Brian

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
Craig's List 2 years ago. The listing was 15 minutes old and I was the first to call. I bought it that day on my way home from work.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
well my first truck was a 90 ford ranger,,forgive me please..bought it new....my next truck was a 4x4 86 suburban..traded a ford mini van straight across for it,,rolled it way up in the mountains. my next truck i really kicik myself for selling, 60 chevy lwb stepside, no rust, got it for free from friends. then i got my 84 gmc saw it sitting in somebody's driveway.had a 70 datsun, blew the motor in it .then my 68 is my last truck,,saw it sitting in a driveway,,but i had yards to mow, i thought it would be to expensive to buy on my budget,,when they told me the price, i asked if i could make payments on it,,when they said yes i couldnt get the down payment out fast enough.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
My first truck was an 86 Dodge that I learned to drive in and my dad bought it from a guy at work.
Second truck 72 lwb I found from Collector Car Trader Online and went to Orlando to inspect and then brought it home. THe third is the 72 Jimmy (click link in signature) I found advertised here on the board from another board member. Again I went to Orlando to inspect an decided to buy and was delivered in Jan.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
Back in high school I found it in a guy’s backyard in my little home town. It was running but that was about it. I did most all of the work myself other than paint and rebuilding the th350. Yes, the hood was missing an "E" at the time of this pic.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
When I started looking I watched the paper each Sunday and went to the newspaper's website everyday to see what was posted. One Wednesday I saw my truck listed. I was the first to call, immediately went and took a test drive, then immediately went to the bank with the guy to get him money.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
Bought mine from a friend of the family.....I really wanted a Blazer but my Dad tells me that this guy has a 72 4X4 pickup sitting in his garage....I say what the heck and go look at it....couldnt pass it up paid $1000 for it and it had 72,000 original on the clock, bone stock (this was 1990-91?).....I put another 72,000 on it before it rusted beyond passing PA inspection....the only thing I did to it was maintain it and springs all the way around...two years ago did a frame on resto and she going strong once again.....

Re: Where did you find your first truck????
My grandpa bought it new off the lot in 1971. Riding around in it is one of my earliest memories as a child (c.1978). My uncle bought it from my grandpa, then my cousin drove it for a few years, and I've always hoped that someday it would be mine. This past year, around my birthday, I finally had some money to make an offer on it. I knew it had been sitting for a couple years and it was killing me to see the algae on the hood...
My cousin (in a rare moment of generosity) gave it to me under the condition that it never leaves the family. Of course, it was stolen a couple days later, but that's another story. It's back now, and I don't plan on ever letting it leave again. |
