Are you kidding! Dont get me wrong here i love the good looks of the chevy, but for work? The chevys we used on the ranch were cut up for firewood trailers! They just simply could not take the abuse! Before you loyal chevys fans start bashing me i drive all kinds of makes and models! It keeps me versatile!

So, why aren't you posting on the truck site of the trucks you used on the ranch? Or are you here looking for replacement quarters for your firewood trailers?

Before I fure up the flame thrower, I'll first say I am versatile, and recently discovered many of my favorite 60 - 80's cars were in fact fords. (it was a depressing day to make that realization) The only cars I own that run are FOMOCO cars.

ONE. look at the compitition 67 - 72 in trucks. Lets keep it american trucks since there were no imported full size trucks here.
1. the ford was one tough SOB, but the inbred twin I beam front end (which you had to heat with a torch to set the camber) and fords shock tower idea that was used through out the 60s and 70s were not good ideas. IMO, these trucks are in many ways better looking than the GM trucks, however, too many engenearing problems.
2. Dodge Has anyone ever seen a 67 - 72 dodge? Did they even make any trucks in this ere? (Yes...I know they did...but this proves a point)
So this pretty much makes it the classic ford verses chevy fight. This is as old as the Michigan vrs Ohio State fight. (BTW...we actually won that one! )

TWO. How many GM trucks from this ere do you see on the road? Noe look for the 67 - 72 ford. If you live up here, you'll see one or two fords a month most likely...and they'll be the same trucks over and over. Even thoguh there aren't a whole lot of the GMs out there anymore up here, they do out number.
I used to live in the south...even there the GM trucks outnumber the ford. 67 - 72 GM trucks are as common as parking lot gravel...fords, not quite as common.
Hmmm...the GM trucks must have lasted longer too?

THREE You were probably using a 1/2 ton truck as a real work truck. Now, I will admit, I think most of us have overloaded a 1/2 ton truck...but IMO, any one who uses a 1/2 ton and actually calls it a work truck is an idiot. (please, no one take offense...this is comin from an idiot) A full size station wagon had the same payload as a 1/2 ton truck.
Now, get a 3/4 ton or a one ton pick up, and I'll go head to head with ANY other pick up OF THAT ERA.

I honestly think mine is one of the most UNbiased opinions you'll get in this argument. I am more than willing to admit when my team sucks. Look at GM 73 - 87. Total junk IMO. Uglier thn a man's ass, rusts out after hitting a mud puddle...the only thing that rusts out quicker was the older Jeeps. And even todays trucks. IMO, Ford (and Dodge for that matter) are walking all over our beloved GM trucks. I work on these suckers all day, and GM is just suckin wind. They design there parts to break, they ignore engenearing problems...they just suck.
We can't even say they look good anymore either!

I am not the biggest 67-72 fan, but I like this board and most of the people on it...so why not help this side of the world out a little.

I have many more ads, of other GM cars of the era. I have Super Sport ads, Impala, Caprice, and some other misc muscle car ads. I can upload those if you guys like.

I`ve noticed two distinct groups of old Chevy trucks in my time:a)beautiful,pampered,and obviously loved(often driven by original owners`til the y couldn`t drive anymore),and b)those that are beat to h#ll and still in use(often owned&sold by a dozen or so,the later using them to haul firewood or loads to the scrap-yard).Also many from group"b"have been fixed back up and you`d never know their tales of hard labor and abuse.Statistics show there are more GM trucks from back then registered and still in use than all the other brands.In`77 I bought a`69 Dodge W200.It was rare then.I did a frame-off resto in`80(it was rusty when I bought it).Then I moved to Flagstaff,AZ.that same year.It was rare there,too.I`m talking 2wd/4wd,1/2t/3/4t,`61-`71.Fords from this era are around.But mostly w/sagging cabs,flappin`front fenders,if the original bed is there,it`s rotted along that silly seem down the side or splayed-out at a 15degree angle,and the 390s and 352s have been scrapped and replaced with the later/somewhat improved design.Like a 351C,or W,or M,or...460,or 302 and returning parts`cause the book calls for it,but it won`t fit.The drivers look over all grumpy lookin`cause the F/E shop that charged him for aligning his Twin-I-Beam said that was the bast he could do.So,his tire`s bouncin`like a basketball and he`s got to wait until next month to buy a pair of used tires for the front,`cause he`s tired of throwing money at the tire store.

I own a`92 GMC SLE K3500 srw.I factory ordered it fully loaded and with the then new 6.5TD/5spd.This has been my daily work truck,side tool boxes/tools/ladders&scaffold/ladder-racks/trailer.It now has 240,000mi.so I`m replacing the lift-pump,glo-plugs,injectors,&inj.pump(1st time).I replaced the alt.@200,000mi.(still charging/bearings froze),The clutch@215,000mi.(while converting to solid flywheel:yes,bad engineering IMO),idler-arm about every 80,000mi.(another weakness/I run 285/75s,though),other than that,just routine maintenence.Is that bad compared to Ford and Dogs?
