distributer install in new engine?
Everything I've read about installing the distributer assumes you are replacing another and thus instructs that the new should point in the direction of the old. What do I do in the case of a brand new engine?

Put engine in TDC position on compression stroke and point rotor towards no. 1 position on cap and drop in.

I think you will get it lined up better if you point the rotor to the 2 or 7 so when in drops in the rotor will move to the 1 position. Just make sure you are at #1 top dead center compression stroke (you can have a #1 top dead center exhaust).

You will also have to line up the oil pump drive rod. If it isn't in the right location it will not drop in. Look at the bottom of the distributer with it at#1 and line up the rod with that. It may take a try or 2.
