Will 315s fit on 11 inch wide rims?

Have been toying with the idea of putting some 315/35/20s on my Intros but do not know if this is a good idea. The wheels are a true 11 inches wide but by my figures the 315 equals about 12.6 inches wide. Is this too much to put on rim? Also the 315 refers to the tread width correct? Will an aspect ratio of 35 percent make the sidewall bulge significantly more than that or will it be about that wide or narrower (at the widest point of tire). Help me out guys!! I have 5 inch backspacing also and by my figures it SHOULD still fit under bed but I am already planning on cutting out inside of bedside and building in more clearance.

Yes, 315 refers to width, 315mm, and the second number is aspect ratio, or 35% of the tread width. You can go to tirerack.com, plug in your tire size and see what rim width is recommended. I have a set of 295-70-15s on 10 inch rims and they barely fit inside the wheel well, maybe 1/4" on each side.

Re: Will 315s fit on 11 inch wide rims?

I'm assuming your "true 11 inch wide" wheel is from bead to bead, is this correct? A measurement of 11 inches from outside edge to outside edge is actually a 10" wide wheel. The measurement is taken between the beads, where the tire actually sits.

You're correct that the 315 refers to tread width. It's in millimeters. The aspect ratio of 35 refers to the sidewall height as a percentage of the width. So 315 x 0.35 = 110mm

Check this out for tire sizes. It's got all the info you'll need. http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp
