Edelbrock manifold and gasket assembly
I am about to set an Edelbrock manifold down to a small block. The Edelbrock gaskets that they reccomend using have a flat side and a side with a blue raised boss around the ports.. Does this go towards the aluminum side?? Also they call for "Gaskachinch" sealant, I have a good supply of permatex Aviation sealant and I believe this should work. Any input on this subject???

Re: Edelbrock manifold and gasket assembly
Raised bosses go up & your sealant should be fine.. Dont forget to put some silicone on each of the corners too...

Re: Edelbrock manifold and gasket assembly
Dont Use Silicone Around Water Passages. Use Permatex Weather Strip Adhesive....... On Head And Intake At Water Ports. Both Sides Of Gasket. They Dont Call It Gorilla Snot For Nothing. This Stuff Seals And Sticks Like A Gorilla. You,ll See If You Get It On Your Fingers...... But Works Great. Use Silicone Along The Front And Rear Of Intake With No Gasket. Let Sit Over Night.done This For Decades And No Leaks Ever. Oh Yea Use Starting Fluid, Laquer Thinner Etc To Clean Head Surfac And Intake Surface Before Assembly.

Re: Edelbrock manifold and gasket assembly
I plan on running the bead of silicone front and rear for seals and not the gaskets (Edelbrock says not to use them, so did a few engine pros that I talked to). The plan is a 1/4 inch bead with a little extra in the corners and let it set 5 minutes to skin over, then set the manifold down and torque.

Re: Edelbrock manifold and gasket assembly
i always take a center punch and dimple the block and intake in the front and rear so there if somthingfor the sealent to bite to and i use the gasket on the front and rear, never had a leakage problem or a seal slip out. i just don't like seeing silly putty sticking out all over.don't forget to use thread sealant on all your bolt threads so it don't puke oil around them
