Since I have been deployed I bought two "parts" trucks. One of which turned out to be a 68 50th Anniversary edition. It was too good of shape to part out so I have decided to get her back to good health. She was missing the steering wheel when I bought her. Does anyone know where I can go to find a factory steering wheel for the 50th Anniversary edition?

BTW, I have all the parts to put her back together. Too include the original 327 and Turbo 400 (??? I think) and all of the AC parts, havent really looked at the tranny to know exactly what it is...But it is all there. Should be fun, and of course you guys know I will post plenty of pics as I am putting her back together, of course after I return home from this deployment!

Chris, The wheel is the same as any other 68 wheel only gold. There is no special horn cap. I think it's really cool of you to save that Annie. Can't wait to see it progress when you get home.

You will either need to find a good used 50th anniversary wheel or buy a good used or new wheel and paint it.

How do you guys feel about those wood steering wheels from LMC? Was thinking about purchasing one for the 68...

tex...BACK AWAY FROM THE PARTS COUNTER...NOW!!! Use the stock wheel. They are painted from the factory and just too cool! Restore your truck to stock!!!! I am doing the same on a 50th Longhorn. It might take a while but you will enjoy it so much more...seriously!

Ok, this literally made me laugh out loud. I am actually going to restore the outside and inside back to factory but the drivetrain and suspension are going to be my own little secret and it is going to be anything but factory. I would like to put a factory wheel back in it eventually but getting someone to paint a steering wheel for me might present a financial problem (at least in my book)...cause when the guy tells me $300 to paint a steering wheel I will laugh in his face... This is one of those times when I wished I knew how to paint!

And one of the actual parts truck... This one is going to be a cab that I fix and then probably sell... Its a big back window 67, with factory AC... I bought it for the 5 lug rear end, that is all I needed from this truck...

C/10 King... I thought the same thing, I havent run the VIN on it yet...But the PO was "very certain" it was a 67

the frame and cab have the same VIN but neither truck came with paperwork (they sat inside that barn in the pics for 10+ years before I got them), working with the state to get that corrected now. Should have title in hand shortly after I arrive back home. So for now I am just going to go with it is a 67 until I run the VIN on it and figure out exactly what I have!

50ths could have any engine that any other 68 had avalible... 250, 292, 307, 327, and 396.

Sounds like the 50th anniversary, is mostly just an added paint scheme, in 1968???

Your 396 is just as unusual as any other 68 with a 396. (which is pretty uncommon in reality)

I have only seen 2 other 68 396 pickups, both were golden anniversary pickups. one short bed, one long bed. I've seen big block pickups, in many colors from 69-72. In fact alamost all big block trucks I've seen were 69-72.

Mine is, 396, TH400, P/S, P/B, A/C. It'ts been apart for a while, but it WILL go back together, someday It's condition is not good, but I keep gathering a part here, a part there. I have a 67 I am going to get going first, it doesn't need nearly as much work, sorta...

that green steering wheel looks amazing!
To anyone painting a wheel.... clean it a million times, and when you are done, clean it 5 more times.
40 years worth of hand oil, engine grease, burger grease, snot from wiping your runny nose, dog poop from your best friend's paws.... and whatever other nasty things... it all gets ground into the plastic and is quite hard to remove.
