72 Chevy Sliding Rear Window
Parting this old 72 out and has the sliding rear window. I usually do the earlier trucks so learning on the 67-72 trucks. Can anyone tell me is this is the original rear sliding window or an aftermarket. It does show it as and option on the glovebox, but not to say some Nebraska farmer did not change it out over the years. Rubber gasket is very soft which has me scratching my head. Thanks for your help.

Re: 72 Chevy Sliding Rear Window
Scott, your window does look factory to me. It looks like it was made for the truck if nothing else. The one above is like mine and some aftermarket piece that does not look correct.
I am soon to get rid of mine as I like the solid rear glass on these trucks. |

Re: 72 Chevy Sliding Rear Window
I think the factory sliders have the top channel arch up a bit and the non factory ones have the non arched top channel.

Re: 72 Chevy Sliding Rear Window
I believe mine was probably a farmer added option. I am sure this truck came with a factory slider but not to say that it was not replaced by an aftermarket that is in the picture. From the time the trucks left the dealership they went into a series of replacement part. Thanks to everyone for the help. Paul

Re: 72 Chevy Sliding Rear Window
Paul,
You black framed window is an aftermarket replacement. Besides the black color it is easy to tell in the picture that it is a fairly universal design that was seen a lot in the 80's. They started with a basic trapezoid shape frame and fillers would be added as required to the top and sides to fit specific applications. While being cheaper to produce with standardized frames and glass they tended to have smaller openings.
