Tire Help: Looking for a wider tire and wheels

I've had my '85 C20 2WD for a while now and have had the same 265/70r16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires on 6.5 inch wide dog dish wheels. I've liked them, but now want something more street. I have the opportunity to buy some American Racing Outlaw II wheels in 16x9, but can't find the tires that I want.

Any suggestions?
Is the 9 inch too wide without cutting or rubbing?
What street tires would fit without being too tall?

I was thinking somewhere along the lines of 285/60r16 in the back and 285/50r16 in the front, but I can't find any tires in that size. Am I being unreasonable?

What do you guys run in a wide street tire?

Please help, I'm ready for a change. This is what my baby looks like now.

Go 17's with 275/60's.

17's is the new standard, and it is what I would do if I built a street truck.

Thanks I'll look for some in 17. I'm trying to do some on the cheap, but craig is one of my best friends.

How many lugs is your truck, is it a six lug? I have a '74 GMC 2WD and it only had 15 inch rims, so I would love to go to 16s.

Also 265 sounds like really wide on 6.5 rims, you sure that's all they are? I think 265 wide runs on most 8 inch wide rims.

Re: Tire Help: Looking for a wider tire and wheels

I have a c20 on 8 lugs. Yes, I'm sure they are currently 6.5 inch wide with 265 width tires. They are more all-terrain than street. I bought it with those and now want a lower profile street wheel, and I know i'll have to go with about an 8" wide wheel to get the width I want. It's just hard to come by 16x8 or 17x8 without losing the classic look.

Re: Tire Help: Looking for a wider tire and wheels

I have Michelin LTX/ATē 265/70R16 on my 1976 & 2000. Little bit wider and little bit taller than stock. Both have 8 lug Aluminum rims from the GMT800 series with the factory center caps. The lug nuts will need to be swapped to dual thread 9/16-18 internal with external center cap retaining threads and the newer seat taper. I see sets of 24 & 32 available all the time on Fleabay.

Turned out looking like the red and brown trucks in this post without spending the kids inheritance.
