New door skins question
For those who have ordered and used aftermarket door skins, what are your thoughts? and can you post pics please.
I have a set of doors that need new lower door skins just like the last set, but the last set I fixed I spent a lot of money getting them on and after welding in the lower skin and they are still not right. this may be my fault. It's like the curve from the body line to the rocker is not near enough curve. I was wondering if I got a set of skins will they curl at the sides like the factory doors do at the fender gap? Will I be happy with the profile definition at the top of the skin where it meets the glass? I ask this cause the inner door bottom they make are crap, and lacks the true body lines. What are your thoughts on the overall shape of the panel. My painter is suggesting new skins over having the current doors with the lower replacement patch reprofiled. I just dont have the money to order new full sinks to be dissipated with them after shipping and such. I am fully aware that they are 100's of sellers for these but really only a 1 or 2 places that make them. |

Re: New door skins question
Steven R: I just bought aftermarket doors. Purists hate this answer, and I acknowledge their complaints. However, the effort to fit the aftermarket doors was a lot lower than the effort to replace the outer skin, and in the end, I feel it cost me a lot less money. The doors I got were Goodmark doors, and after poor fit on a previous build, (years ago), I was pleasantly surprised with the fit. Not perfect, but much better than they used to be... Especially in the door glass frame area.
IF the new skins are as good as the doors, I wouldn't think it would be an issue. Again, I would have had to pay to have the work done, and the new doors were just less expensive. Plus, my doors had extensive rust in the frame area, so it was just better to replace them. Good Luck! |
