98 ext cab long bed 2500..dually?

My father in law has a 98 (i think) extended cab long bed c2500. was his work truck for years until he blew a hole in the block last year. i have the option to get it for free, and then replacing with a junk yard engine myself. BUT, what i am wanting to do is try to swap a dually rear end and fenders, and putting a nice drop kit on it.

are the dually rear ends as easy as just swapping right over? i figured the 2500 frame would be identical to a dually frame since they are all 2500's and 3500's for the most part.

havent had one of the model trucks in YEARS so i am not too familiar with them. any info appreciated!

Dually rear ends are wider than fleetsides. It should be a straight forward swap but if it is low for cruising and not doing heavy haul duty you could just use spacers on the inners and save some time, money and trouble.

I seen the spacers but they run like 5-600! I don't "plan" on doing any towing but I would like to leave the possibility there if I can. I assumed they wider, just hoping it's a basic - drop the single and bolt in the dually one

I had a Dodge 2nd gen I was planning to go the other way on, dually to SRW and it was that simple. That said I think GM used different width leaf springs in some years between the 2500 and 3500's.
