Axle hitting crossmember

I have an 82 gmc k1500 with a 4 inch suspension lift. when put into 4 wheel drive the front drive shaft hits and clunks off the tranny cross member. Why is this? Do i need a transfer case lowering kit? by the look of it the transfer case should be raised up to have clearance over this crossmember

Re: Axle hitting crossmember

My brother's truck was doing the same thing. The cardan joint was hitting the crossmember. I got him a spacer that went between the driveshaft and the flange on the tcase. Problem solved!

Re: Axle hitting crossmember

Is the crossmember on correctly. There is a spot on the x-member that is tapered to allow clearance for the joint...I found that out the hard way once. What condition are the rubber mounts on the x-member...maybe they have deteriorated enough to cause problems.

Heres the link to what you are looking for. I just got one at the local 4 wheel shop.
