Gas Cap

I have a 67 short bed step side and the gas cap leaks out onto the paint when I fill it up or close to 3/4 or so.

Where can I get a good chrome one hopefully made in USA?

Re: Gas Cap

I have gotten them from Advanced Auto before but the first one started leaking after a year or so and then the next one didn't vent properly so they replaced it for me.

Also, welcome to the forums. Judging by your avatar you have a nice little truck. Here is a link to the Maryland section of the forums with all of the happenings going on in the state.

Re: Gas Cap

I bought a locking (Made in Mexico?) gas cap for my 1972 at Advanced Auto in 2003 and although the rubber ring is now cracked, I am confident it sealed really well. I say this because the truck sat in a garage with a full tank until June and I don't think one ounce of gas evaporated out of the cap.

Re: Gas Cap

people waste many thousands of dollars in shipping by not goin to a local store and asking

lots of stuff is common and readily available at the local level

Re: Gas Cap

I just purchased one from NAPA just 3 weeks or so ago. It's a Stant packaged under NAPA'S Balknap label. It was also a better price than my other local parts places. But then I'm lucky enough to have a AutoZone, O'Reilly, Carquest, Advance, Napa all within a 5 mile stretch of highway by my house.

Re: Gas Cap

I bought 1 from LMC, then 2 different ones from local parts stores. they all leaked like crazy. Got one from Bother's when I was ordering a bunch of stuff and this one doesn't leak.

Brother's one is the only one without a lock on it, so that may be the difference.
