'77 K10 won't start

['72 Chevy Suburban]

I have been having some intermittent problems with my '77 K10 starting
and now it won't start at all. Thank god, because it was getting
frustrating trying to troubleshoot the intermittent problem! I have
confirmed that it is a "no spark" condition and here is what I have done
in the past week or so:

New Rotor
New Module
Different Cap
Different Coil
Ignition switch (replaced about 6 months ago)

I checked voltage at the "battery" connection, with the wire off, and
found 12 volts with the ignition on and 9.5 volts while cranking. Is
that normal?
What else should I check?

Hey john I'm new to the site and own a 75 k10 which I'm fixing up.I did acomplete tune up on my truck and runs good.It seems like you have changed everything but the wires.My truck was running rough so i checked the wires and they were'nt plugged in all the way.Hopfully it's an easy fix for you.Also check your battery connection I had problems there too.

When you installed the module, rotor etc. did you place the dielectric grease on there as well? If not there's your trouble. You can overheat it really fast and ruin it.

Welcome to the site, it's awesome! I did ohm out the wires and they all checked out ok as it wasn't too long ago that I replaced them. Thye all seem to be seated on the plugs and teh distributor cap. Once the truck does start, it purrs like a kitten.

I did install the dielectric grease when I put the new module in there, Brandon. My old module tested out ok at Advance, but I replaced it anyway since I had a similar problem about a year ago. Unfortunately, they were both the cheapo GP Sorensen modules because the parts store didn't have the AC Delcos in stock. Do you think th athe new one fried on me in a couple of days? I wouldn't be too surprised...

Is there anything else that will fry a module?

I wouldn't hurt to replace it with the one you have that is working and test the other one. Another thing that would hurt is that if the battery was hooked up wrong. Jody's dad bought a Bronco II for $250 since it wouldn't run etc. We hauled it home and after changing the stuff you already did and a few other minor issues (unrelated issues to the battery being installed backwards and trying to start) we had it going. We had the same problem though with about the same voltage you have to the HEI but nada after that. Also you might check the coil while looking into it.
