Re: 65 Body To 81 Frame

how bad off is your 65 frame?
I would switch all the 81 frontend components to the 65, since they are a near bolton, and keep the stock car style rear set up from the 65, since it is a better suspension setup for a streetrod/custom ( if you are not going to use it as a work truck).
I did a post similar to this awhile back , and that is what everybody told me as well.

IN 1992 i put a 1965 GMC truck cab and bed on a 1977 chevy 4x4 truck frame.I use the 65 GMC cab mount brackets. Then i added 3-inches on the front cab brackets to level the cab.

Yes it can. I would suggest centering your front fenders with radiator support attached over the center of the newer axle, mark and mount your radiator support. Then work your way toward the back of the truck adjusting the cab mounts as needed.

I Still Dont Understand Why You Would Want To, Just Take The Whole Damn Front Crossmember Put It On The Other Truck, Otherwise Your Going To Be Cutting And Rewelding Body Mounts Trying To Get It To Sit Right, If Its A Daily Get Some Power Discs On It And Maybe Some Cushy Seats And It Will Be The Same Damn Thing As The 81! Your Doing Way To Much Work If You Try To Swap Boddies......completely Uneeded....................by The Way Anything Is Possible Of Coarse It Could Be Done, Is It Worth The Time And Money......hell No, Take A Look At Frizzle Fry's Build Threds Then You Will Know What Im Talking About When I Say Anything Is Possible If You Have The Right Tools, Money And Know How!

Maybe he's having the same problem as me....a frame beyond saving. Maybe he has more time than monetary resources. Or may be he just wants a challenge to test his fabricating skills. It is his vehicle, we should make suggestions but never TELL a person what to do. OPINIONS VARY!

I agree, bigpimp is asking for people's experience, good and bad. he is not looking for permission. seems to me he is trying to gather all the info he can so he can make an informed decision on what to do with HIS truck, no need for attitudes. maybe he wants to do something different, isn't that what this is all about?

Yes it can be done....just like 65chevy4x4 said you'll have to build all your body mounts except for IIRC the core support.

Several years ago I mounted a '62 C10 body on a '75 C10 frame. When it was all done it sat about as high as a stock K10 due to basically having a body lift.
