Questions on Manual to Auto swap

Looking at swapping my M21 4-speed for a TH400 on my 66 C-10. Before I ask alot of questions, can anyone point me to a thread where someone has done the same or similar?

I have looked but could not find one.

Some of my questions are around the mount, can I use the one that is in there now, if so will it need to be modified? Will it be easier to get one from another truck, what year should I look for? Or is it just easier to buy on like REZ has in their catalog?

Any opinions on floor mount shifters?

Enough now, I mentioned I was not going to ask alot of questions, but I kinda did anyway.

Thanks for the assistance.

Re: Questions on Manual to Auto swap

If your truck uses the bellhousing as the trans munt you will need to find another one. if it mounts to the back of the trans then you should be able to reuse it. You will need a different yoke for the driveline and you will need to havr the driveline shortened.

If you end up needing a transmission crossmember, one from a '67 to '87 pickup with an auto will bolt in.....just need to drill some holes.

Re: Questions on Manual to Auto swap

Shouldn't be much to the swap, don't forget to run a trans cooler though. As far as shifters go, everybody loves the Locars, though they are a little spendy!

Whatcha gonna do with that M21?

Thanks for the info. Right now I am trying to get all of the parts together for the swap. Doing the power steering upgrade first.

If you are interested in the M21, shoot me a PM and we can discuss. Once it is out, I will not be needing it.

Re: Questions on Manual to Auto swap

Hey Cashy John (love the name), if you're going to all this work, why not use an overdrive tranny (700R4). Of course, if you've got a big block in your 66...

I had a B&M in my 77 for years, and although it worked okay, I thought it was crap compared to the Lokars. Was going to switch it, but ended up going to a stick (SM465).

Good luck, whichever way you go.

I have done the PS swap, just be sure to buy the REZ kit (your frame can't take the stress). Yours should be a breeze, the 60-62 frames are boxed up front and not much fun!

Let me know if you need some help, it's not hard but always nice to have another set of eyes (plus I think I have some spare PS pumps laying around that I would be happy to give away).

BTW, I'll be in touch about the tranny.

Thanks for the input. Would have gone with an OD, but got a great deal on the TH400 so I am going that way for now. That is 2 recommendations for the Lokar now.

After getting the PS setup, the next item I got was the REZ kit. Great folks to work with, BTW. I will definitely take you up on your offer if I need some assistance. Allen is not that far from Plano.

Thanks for the input.
