Need help identifying loose vacuum/fuel lines

I'm 70% done with a project K5. I bought the truck in very bad condition and many modifications had been made, some poorly done.

I have worked through most things. I currently have two unattached lines under the truck and I cannot find enough good data in my Haynes or Chilton books to determine what they are and where they are supposed to go.

One comes out of the top of the transfer case. I don't think it is a simple breather tube because it is not filtered or anything. The first attached picture is of the hose. Can someone tell me where it is supposed to connect?

The other is an unconnected steel tube that runs near the fuel line heading back to the tank. It ends, unconnected, just to the right (passenger side) of the transmission. (see 2d attached pic). I traced the tube back to the rear, behind th gas tank where it crosses along the frame cross member to the drivers side and ends at a strange three fitting connection to the rear of the gas tank filling neck. (see 3rd attached picture). I have no clue what the three fitting *device* is and have no clue what to connect the other end to.

Ideas? Thanks!!

The one on the top of the transfer case is a breather.

The one on the pass. side used to run all the way forward to the charcoal canister. Still not sure what that cylinder device does by the fuel filler neck, but I'm sure someone else will know...

Here are a few pics. Not quite done. Needs new shocks, brake overhaul + new master cyl/vac assist and I'm getting the entire tub spraylined with polyurea.

Has new GM Performance 350 HO (330HP, 380lb-ft) crate engine and new/complete Painless wire harness. Body was sanded down, repaired and painted desert tan. All new body bushings.

Transmission (4WD) is stable. Has a B&M shifter. I have not taken the time to identify the transmission and transfer case. Automatic, either a TH350 or TH400. So much has been done to this truck since '72 I cannot assume anything.

by the way... Semper Fi and happy early 232.

They wouldn't let me take my HMMMV with me so I had to build a Blazer. How else am I going to get my guns to the desert?

Nice work sarge, tan looks really good not alot of that around. Did you do the work yourself? How much rust.

That cylinder with the three lines going to it must be a vapor canister

In 72 the polution controls fairy attacked the truck industry with a vengence. The line next to the fuel when to the charcoal canister that was mounted under the leading edge of the pass fender. It take too long to try to explain all the lines and where they go but---all your really need to run is a fuel filler and large vent line coming out of the fuel tank as well as the feed running forward to you fuel pump. The other lines coming out of the tank can be capped unless Calif inspects this crap.
Up front, you can eliminate the charcoal canister with it's lines and just run like a 67-70 setup.
On the vent line out the top of the transfer--it should have a venting cap on the hose to minimize water & dirt penetration. Check your rear axle--should have same vent line on it. Huck

Could post up some closer pics of the trans fer case vent, mine doesn't have one.



Don't know if you can see it, but it has a 8" piece of rubber hose on it, and bends into a 'U' away from the frame

I'll try to get better pics.

Last night I hopped on the creeper and went on a mission to ID the trans and xfer case. I have a TH350 and an NP205.

Huck...

Everything original in the engine compartment was replaced. None of the emissions stuff made it back in. In CA, 1972 is now exempt. The fuel system currently goes like this.

Intake:
Tank->Mech Fuel Pump->Fuel Filter->Carb

Exhaust:
Exhaust Manifold->Muffler->Atmosphere

For safety and reliability I'd like to remove / cap off everything not necessary. Is it advisable to cap everything coming off of the fuel tank except for the fuel line heading forward to the fuel pump?

The hard line on the frame most-likely goes to the vapour canister that should be mounted on the pass front fender,beside the battery.
So you can trace that line back to the vent tube(beside filler tube).

One should go to a vent line on top of the tank,don't mess with that one unless you like being showered with gas on fill-ups and whenever you open the gas cap.

the 3rd....hmmm...I'll have to research that.I did at one time but it's left my head now.
