What's the attraction?

First of all, I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Second, I am perfectly OK with the idea that someone that owns a truck to do whatever in the world they want to it (as long as it doesn't harm somebody else).

So don't read into my question something that is not there.

That said, I have been following this forum for a few months and have read a good bit of the archives. After all that, I still have not been able to figure out what is the attraction of (1) lowering or "slamming" these trucks or (2) making these trucks really loud. To me, their attraction is in their perfectly balanced blend of form and function, plus a bit of nostalgia about my family truck. To alter these trucks so they can't haul a load of mulch or so they would cause a public nuisance seems to be violating their dignity somehow, to me. Call me crazy, but I feel embarassed for "rodded" trucks.

But I want to keep an open mind, so I'd love to hear why other folks feel differently. I realize I probably am in the minority in feeling this way.

Thanks.
