67 6 lug to 5 lug conversion.

Is there a thread or link anyone can point me too?
Is there a direct axle swap off another chevy truck to convert the 67 6 lug to a 5 lug? I just got my posi unit installed, I assumed I could use the 70-72 5 lug axles but They are longer. I guess I should just pick up a complete axle from a 70-72 if I can find one. I could pick one up and transfer the posi. I already have a rear disk brake conversion set-up.

Early classics has a 5 lug axle swap for around 300 bucks. I'm assuming you have a 12 bolt 30 spline.

x2.... Especially if you already rebuilt the differential.
There aren't any direct swap axles. Go with aftermarket units which have zero wear & are stronger than OE.

just spent 500 on the diff wasnt wanting to spend another 300 on axles.

If you just installed a posi, did you upgrade the bearings? seals?

I had my 71/72 rear rebuilt, I gutted it and cleaned it all up and still cost me $1000, that included the master rebuild kit and the ring/pinion to 3.73. no posi.

I only changed the posi. The 373 ring and pinion was already installed about two years ago by the previous owner. I did use a gauge and tested the play. Right at .09. I used the original spacers. And checked the ware pattern. It was dead on with the previous diff. So I only paid for the Eaton series 4. I did all this thinking I could just swap the axels from a 71 or 72. So now I am going to buy a few axles in the near future. It just slows down my progress.
That's a sweet 65 in your sig. Clyde how's the gas milage?

Not to hyjack, but I'm in the same boat and curious about my options.

I have a 6 lug axle too, but it's garbage. Everything needs replacing. I can grab a local 12b/5 lug/ with 3.73s for around $180. Dunno the shape though. Was looking at putting a 9" together, but it's overkill and expensive. What do you guys think?

I wont say it is the best option ...... but it is a reasonable option. Having the axles and drums redrilled to 5 on 5 and the centers turned down to fit the 5-lug wheel cost me $85.00 locally , just need to make sure the axles arent wore out first . Now to me the best option for a fleetside truck is to go ahead and put the wider 71-72 rear axle in if possible. Opens up alot more options for wheels with the correct backspacing .

Re-drill them and press in 5 studs and get some 71/72 drums. Very common practice. Then get one of the many kits for the front offered for a disc conversion or a simple 5 lug conversion (CPP) being one of them if you want to go that route fro the front. We just did it on a 69.

If I could go back I would grab the 12 bolt for $180 and get it installed with 373's already installed the ring and pinion can stay saving a few hundred bucks.

Just remember the 70-72 rearends are 3/4" PER SIDE wider than the 67-69 rearends.

I would still buy new axles from Moser Engineering to replace those old axles.

Haha Nope. Was thanking the guy I bought it from. Was from CList, not here. But it seems all my CList dealings so far (with this truck) have been with members I don't know! Kinda cool guys, the popularity and all. I don't run into people from my Blazer forum at all.

Some people say to re-drill the studs is unsafe? Ive got time. I think I will ether buck-up and buy the axles or if I can find a good deal on a axle out of a 71-72 just re-build it with my diff. from my 67.
