Starter Noise Question (is it DONE?)

I had to take my starter out to squeeze the headers onto my truck. Then, I put it back in. Now, when I start the truck, the starter is making this loud whining noise while the engine cranks. I don't know if it's now dead for some reason, or I have something misaligned. There's only two bolts holding the starter in place, so I don't think I have it in wrong. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Re: Starter Noise Question (is it DONE?)

Scott,

I have a 66, so I do not know if it is the same bolt pattern. My starter has 3 bolts on it, so you might want to check a little closer. Also you might have to shim your starter to get it to align with the gears correctly. Just a thought?

Shawn

Re: Starter Noise Question (is it DONE?)

This is exactly the same problem I have. I think the starter gear is getting jammed in the flywheel and it cant turn. Sometimes mine gets stuck and wont retract back into the starter either.

Re: Starter Noise Question (is it DONE?)

Thx for the replies. Shawn, I don't think I'm missing a bolt though. Shims.. maybe that's the trick though.
