Missing my dog

It is a sad weekend. We had to euthanize one of our dogs, Abby, yesterday. It's a very quiet house now. Looking back at pictures. She had a lively personality and had loads of fun in her life.

Re: Missing my dog

Great pics. So sorry for your loss, and when I say I feel your pain, I truly mean it. Time will help but you'll never forget.

We had to put down our 14 1/2 year old Wolfdog on May 27, 2022 and I was heartbroken. Then on September 30, 2022, we lost our Husky mix to bone cancer. It still hurts and I still get emotional thinking about them.

Thanks. I found another picture. She loved jumping and playing in the hose water but didn't care for standing water.

Re: Missing my dog

so sorry for your loss, been through it too many times myself with my pit bulls and a shepherd. my dad loves his boxers-he's had several over the years, his current little girl is 12 1/2 and it's sad to see her slowly going downhill. getting another won't replace the one you lost but time will heal your broken heart and you can shower the new one with love in the mean time.

Look at her go! I'm sorry for all you people who have lost pets. We have boxes sitting around here with our past dog's ashes...

Re: Missing my dog

So Sorry.
I know She will be Missed.

I have had lots of pets I got close to thru the years.

I had one cat that lived 18 years and a dog that lived 14 years.

They become almost human over the years.
It's almost like they can speak to you.

Very sorry to hear that. One month ago today our best friend took his last ride in the truck. He gave us 13 years of joy. He was the most easy going, goofy dog my wife or I ever had. If I was under the vehicles, he would belly crawl to be by my side. Plumbing the house, into the crawlspace he came. He had his favorite bucket that he would haul my wifes clippers in. What a character he was. My favorite pic of him is when he was supervising the bearing/seal replacement on the car. He could not lay down easily, hearing was gone, plus other issues, yet he had to be along side me.

Re: Missing my dog

Our old wolfdog many years ago, protecting his Christmas bone. Losing him was one of the hardest things I ever dealt with.

Re: Missing my dog

Great pictures, although it is hard to see them clearly through tears. Until this recent pair of dogs I never had a pair like them. They could play tug with toys, rip toys out of each other's mouths and take off chasing, bring toys to each other, knock each other over, romp, and never have a dispute between them for years. It was all in good fun no matter what it was. Abby would bite and stretch out the side of Bentlee's face by 4 inches like a rubber band and they would still both think it was funny. I don't know how they would play so hard and not draw blood.

My condolences to all who have lost their best friend, I dread the day I have to part ways with my German Shepard.

Re: Missing my dog

I thought about this post a bit. We've had labs and goldies for hunting ducks and upland for the most of the last 40 years. The first lab we had lived to 16 years. Could only hunt a full day until about 10 years. Then a couple of hours and then he knew he just had to stay home. I think he understood. It was never easy but I truly believe they knew it was their time.

Re: Missing my dog

Dave,

I'm just now seeing this thread.. Condolences, my friend for your loss.. Abby isn't gone, she's waiting for you on the other side of the rainbow bridge..

Our present dog is an Australian Cattle Dog mix.. She chose us when she was already an adult dog. She's at least 14 years old, and for years, she helped us trailer the calves.. She "retired" from the business about 4 years ago.. She just, one day, decided she was finished with work and just supervised from the back porch.

I once read a story about losing our devoted pets.. A father was trying to explain to his son, why their dog had died at the age of 10.. The dog and the boy had been together since both were just little pups. The dad explained as best he could and then asked his son if he understood why the dog had died.. The young boy, with all the innocence of his young age answered this way.. "Yes Dad, I understand.. Dogs don't have to live very long because they are born knowing how to give love, devotion, and faithfulness.. They don't have to live very long because they already know this.. Humans don't learn that very quickly.. It takes them a long time to learn how to love and be faithful.."

Re: Missing my dog

I was there, petting her, when they put my mother's dog down. Mom nearly died of grief, ended up in the hospital.

I cried like a baby, which is something I've never done at a funeral. Tears for me only seem to come with joy if the Holy Spirit moves me in some way. I called the contractors and told them to take the day off.

Don't let this end your love for dogs, go get another one and see them both in Heaven.
