Finally getting to work on my baby!

I've been a member on this site for a while, but haven't been active because I've been building a '69 Jeepster Commando for the past little while. Now that the weather is great around here and Hot August Nights (a big classic car event in Reno, NV) is around the corner, I'm getting back into working on my '64. It's a '64 step c10 body on a 73 k10 frame with a 350 .30 over and sm420trans. It's got a 4" lift on 33s. It's been my daily driver for quite some time now, but now that my Jeep project is coming together, I will be able to give the truck some much needed attention. I'm going to start with the body and paint because the drivetrain is running pretty decent, but I have plans for a 383, or possibly a new generation LS motor swap. I'm going to be painting it a heavy metal flake charcoal with black accents. Anyhow, here's some pics of my rig as it sits now.

Re: Finally getting to work on my baby!

I have a 79 K 10 that I was thinking of throwing on a 65 body. I will not be keeping the truck for long and don't know if I should sell it or just part it out. I dought I can sell it these days here seeing it needs to be smogged every 2 years.
The truck looks good in those pictures.

no smog here in NV for 67 and older. there's some weird engine swap laws, but as long is it's 67 and older, you can do whatever. and you can make anything pass smog, just lean it way out and remove vacuums to lean it further. i had a 225 in my jeepster before swap and it burned a quart of oil for a tank of gas, and i still got it to pass

You can't do that here. You can't remove vacuums. They will see it and it will fail. We don't have to smog anything 1975 and older, so if I put a 66 body on it I can register it as a 66 and not even worry about it.
My 79 passes anyway with flying colors as it is. No one wants to buy something like that though. I put a 700R4 trany and 208np transfer case from an 88 burb also.

Re: Finally getting to work on my baby!

Not trying to sounds ignorant, but are those pictures of your truck out in nature for real? I mean the backdrop looks like something out of Star Trek The Next Generation!

Way cool truck though, love the stance!

it is an HDR image. It IS real, but it's a composition of 3 images taken at different exposure levels. To capture all of the color of the image I used the HDR technique. IE....
It some exposure level, the truck was too dark, but the sunset was visible, or the truck light and sunset not visible. I added a warmer feel to the image to give the rock a nice color. Here are the original images that the photo was composed of.

oh man, that's on a cliff too..maybe i'll try to get out and get some pictures of what the hill in front of the truck looks like. it's way crazy. we have some really great scenery around here. lake tahoe, the rubicon, and fordyce are in my backyard so we have some sinister 4x4 trails around here too. here's a picture of a jeep in the same rock crop as my truck.

Re: Finally getting to work on my baby!

got a nice dress-up kit today, and well...i like it...brought back the idea of suede black exterior, red rims, and white walls! anyhow, this is the 350 now. i should probably pull those headers and give them a good powder coat because it kind of throws my engine bay off balance.

Re: Finally getting to work on my baby!

so i've been doing some debating while i've been finishing up my jeep project. i'm trying to get my hands on a 68 327 that i can bore over and shake up with a crane cam topped off 1.94 heads and tuned port injection. i already snagged up a tuned port setup off of an 86 camaro with the MAF that should be getting here this week. i'm going to be sticking with my sm420, but i'm going to mate it to a np205. i'm keeping the lift, 33" tires, and keeping it

Wow, awesome truck.
Nice HDRs too.. people tend to over-do it and make them mega-saturated, but yours have a nice balance.

Re: Finally getting to work on my baby!

In case you didn't already know. When building a EFI engine it is best to choose a cam that is compatable with EFI. It is easier to get the tune right IMO.

I'm glad to hear you decided to keep it a 4x. Post up some pics of your progress.

BTW. Crane is no longer in business.
