Finally brought my 64 home...

Finally picked up my '64 from Dad. Grandpa bought this truck new. He added A/C a few days later. Dad later added HEI and a chrome rear bumper. Other than that they put 78k hard miles on her...

Right now she needs wheel cylinders, battery and wheels/tires. Hope to get that done in the next week or so. Next will be power steering/disc brakes, then A833. I have a '96 LT1 that I was planning on putting in, but starting to think about just cleaning up the 283 and adding headers and a 4bbl. Might consider the LT1 in the Blazer, and the Blazer's 350 in the 64 though.

The Blazer's ralleys will be going back on the 64 and will probably just lower the front of the 64 2" with springs. Kinda like the stance for now. Paint and body work will have to wait till I finish up a couple other projects. Just need her to be road worthy for now. Really excited to start driving her...

Cool! Another still in the family since new truck build. Yours looks to be in decent shape too. Getting it road worthy and dependable is a good idea. Then you can tackle small, weekend projects while keeping it driveable. That helps with the motivation.

Nice K5 Blazer too

That is way cool that's your grandpa's old rig and then to your dad! Good for you to keep it going. Looking forward to more updates on this and have fun with your new project.

Re: Finally brought my 64 home...

Thanks, guys. I'm really excited about it. Especially considering the history. I can remember getting a bloody nose when someone cut Grandpa off in traffic. He hit the brakes, but couldn't catch me before I went face first into the A/C unit. I was probably 4. I'm already looking into seat belts. So, my girls won't get to experience all the joys that Daddy did...

Got wheel cylinders on the way, pick up a battery tomorrow, will be playing musical tires tomorrow or Friday. My buddy has some old tires that we'll put on the K5's original wagon wheels for now. The K5 will either be getting some old Western turbines I cleaned up or a set of M/T Classic II's, and the ralleys will get new paint and go back on the 64.

My plan is to keep it looking original, but a little bit of modern tech for easier driving. I was thinking about converting to a short bed, but the long bed is convenient, and how Grandpa bought it, so probably stay long bed.

My oldest (4 year old) is pretty excited about it too. She's got her tool box ready...

Grandpa had his own repair shop. I've got his old work shirt with the name/number on the back. Thinking about painting it on the doors. Dad suggested side boards on the bed rails, and putting the shop name/number there. The shop phone number was only three digits. Pretty cool...
