I know I KNOW! Search for it. I did! Can't find the post anywhere that tells me where to get them. I know they are expensive, but it may be a necessary evil! Our original cab looks like #$@%!^ and we've got a small hump '67 cab to replace it. Gonna move the VIN plate to the "new" cab and need those rivets once the cab is "refreshed". HELP!!

Those at trimtags.com doesn't look like the ones on the original cab VIN plates. And they are saying they are $12 for the pair. I read somewhere they were more like $30 a pair.

Anyone???

When I did a search for them, it came up that trimtags didn't sell them anymore. I guess they are hard to find because some use them for the wrong reasons. A couple of the posts in the search listed Ebay as a source, but you know how hit and miss it can be.

In order to get them from Trim Tags you must email them and ask specifically for the rosette rivets as used to hold vin tags on with. They are $48 and shipping.

When you read how "they" recommend to install them...with epoxy...it will become abundently clear that the cheapest way to obtain the proper rosebud rivets and install them is to take them off an existing vehicle and just reuse them.

You might want to check with your State Department of Transportation or DMV, because I believe that switching VIN plates from one vehicle to another is ILLEGAL. Just a thought.

In some states it is illegal,unless good reason.For instance if you buy one of the NEW 67/69 CAMARO OR 32 FORD STEEL BODYS shells they do not come with VINS. The manufacturer recomends swaping VINS from a junk.A buddy of mine did it to a NEW 69 CAMARO he just bought. The DMV told him it was fine but they sent a trooper over the run the numbers before we did it.

I have a hard time believing this is OK. Boyd coddington I believe had a problem for just that thing. New 32 Fords are special constructions not 1932 Fords. I know people swap titles all the time, but I can't believe the DMV is cool with it... May be different state to state

He got busted because he was doing it to avoid paying taxes. Never mess with a dog and his bone or the government and their money.

Call the DMV and they will send some one out to witness the VIN plate change. As long as both are clear vins you won’t have a problem. I did it with a 79 many moons ago.

But I would just swap it and be done with it. Unless your planning to do drive byes "THE MAN" wont hassle you over the vin plate on a 40 year old truck. The vin is on the frame anyway.

Anyway we can collect some bond money in case you go down. Just keep those cheaks tight and your back to the wall, we will be there soon.

Illegal or not is not for me to say, but a generic hardware store aluminum rivet and a Dremel tool will do what you need. At least that's how someone I "know" has done it in the past.

because that is about 3-8 hrs work depending on your skill level and it only takes about 2 minutes to drill the old rivets out and install the new ones.

Vin swapping on a stolen car/truck is bad, but we change them to save the vehical, totally diff IMO. My truck will have matching frame and cab with the plate on the cab have been remove from the rusted beyond repair cab, to my other now rust free cab. Why is that considered illegal if they match?

It is OK here in MD to switch the vin plate on a cab. If the truck were wrecked and the cab had to be replaced, would you have to re-title the truck? No. Same difference if you are replacing the cab for rust, or whatever. The law in MD is that the Vin must match the majority of the parts. When I repaired my cab, we removed the VIN plate to do all of the bodywork, I just used regular pop rivets to attach it. I would not worry about the rosebud rivets unless you are doing a 100 point resto. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong....

I pretty sure you can do it here in Pa, but you will more than likely end up with a R title reconstructed/salvage title. Not important if you are keeping the truck but, it lowers resale value IMO. My suggestion is Contact the DMV and let them know it's a rebuild/restoration problem and they will let you know waht to do. I don't think you will have a problem. For possible resale value documment the whole build pic's and written to show future owner. Good luck RJ22

I believe in the state of Alabama they didn't start "titleing" vehicles until the early 70's. I did talk to a good friend who is an attorney for the state. He said he'd get the process started. My nephew-in-law is a cop and he's gonna sign an affidavit about the VIN plate switch. And I wouldn't have asked about the rivets unless I checked first.

In California, this is definitely a don't do it situation.

Felony, as a matter of fact..

You can have the DMV generate a new vin for you if your doing that much of a reconstruction. If the truck ever made it to CA and was caught on it, they would likely fine, give you some jail time, and make you put a dmv vin on it, AND get a salvage title..

ive seen people just cut around the whole vin plate, and just weld the entire piece from another truck to the new cab... i know its alot more work, but it might turn out better.

i used to work in a bodyshop and when we replaced whole pillars or for some reason had to remove a vin plate, we just threw it in the glovebox when we were done with it... not ssure why but thats just what we did.
