Drop ? 255/70 15 slots

New to the Forum, Restoring 67 swb. I have a set of 15 inch slots with 255/70 tires 3.5 backspacing. want to do 4/5 drop using cpp grand slam kit. anybody know about front clearance issues with this tire wheel set-up? should I go with the new modular drop spindles? any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Drop ? 255/70 15 slots

First, Welcome to the board!

So, it's a 67, 6 lug drum (?) with 15x (?) wheels and 255/70 all the way around? Just making sure .. I'll be happy to help, just need to confirm some details first. Is it a stepside or fleetside?

Welcome aboard from Lake County!
You will be ok with those wheels and the modular spindles are great. CPP makes pretty good stuff. You will like this site...tons of good info here.
How about some pics......

67 6 lug, back drum, converting to front disc with drop. I believe that the wheels are 15x8 and 255/70/15 all the way around. Fleetside.

Re: Drop ? 255/70 15 slots

On a 4" drop, I think the front tires would be rubbing pretty bad. The 255/70/15 is 29.05" tall. Most of the guys run a 20x8.5 up front with a 255/40/20. This tire would be 28.03" tall but the offset / backspacing would pull the tire up underneath the truck quite a bit. This wheel for example, thought it's 8.5" wide, it is sitting at a 5.25" BS. Most of the wheel is tucked more underneath the truck.

Assuming a 15x8" rally wheel (?) with a 255/70 on the front I would suggest maybe a 255/60 (27.04" tall) OR - go to a 15x7 inch wheel on the front. I have run a 15x8 wheel on the front and I used a 235/70/15 front tire. It was only dropped 3" though..

just saying, with 4.5" of the wheel to the outside (roughly) .. 8in wheel - 3.5" backspacing .. then a relatively tall tire up front I think it would be too big. Especially turning and / or going into a Sonic or something to grab a burger. If the truck got into a 'binding' situation or whatever. ..

Just my opinion. I personally would do a 15x7 and a 225/70/15 255/70/15 on the back would be fine. 275/60/15 would be better .. IMO

Again, just all my input. Hope it helps.

Re: Drop ? 255/70 15 slots

Just so you know ..

225/70/15 = 27.40in tall (7in wheel up front)
275/60/15 = 27.99in tall

On a 4/6 drop on a fleetside .. It would be awesome.

Re: Drop ? 255/70 15 slots

Here's my stepper with this same basic drop ..

F - 15x6.5" Van rallys .. 205/60/15 (too small, they are just rollers)
R - 15x8 .. 255/70/15

4.5 in drop in the front, 6 spring in the back. This truck has the early rear end housing it in, so it should be the same as your 67. You would have more room than this under your fleet bed. the tires would tuck under a little more in the back. The front tires look tiny on this pic, but just trying to give you a general idea.
