hei issue

Anyone else run into this problem, just dropped in a 65k hei from Skip White, the vacum advance hits the manifold and blocks the manifold vacum port, Im hoping that once I get it wired up and timed that the correct timing postion will take the vac adv far enough clockwise to get it out of the way, anyone else have an issue with this

Re: hei issue

Yea thats how it was for me too, i just put an elbow on it and pointed it the other way, i used a fuel line to attach to the elbow to give something for the hose to go over. Here is the elbow i used, although its not pointed that way anymore. i have it pointed to the drivers side.

Re: hei issue

why is the vacuum can off by almost 1/4 turn? I would stick with a good GM HEI.

Re: hei issue

Can't you just move the plug wires all over one hole and then move the whole distributer back some?

Isn't that just related to how it's stabbed in? I've heard nothing but good stuff abut SW HEI's.

Re: hei issue

Yes. As far as where the vacumn can is located it is just a matter of pulling the dist out, turning the oil pump shaft clockwise just a bit and reinstalling the dist with the can turned more to the rear. No need to move plug wires that way.

Re: hei issue

wouldnt you have to move the oil pump and the plugs, cause if you took it out at #1 tdc then move turned the oil pump and put it back in, the rotor will be pointed at a different plug

Re: hei issue

Sounds like you are off one tooth on the cam with the dist.

Re: hei issue

Mine is pointed just like the one in the pic. you should be able to get it close to see where it will sit before cranking it. if its not pointing the right way you are off a tooth.

No need to move the plug wires, just turn the dist clockwise to line the rotor back up on number one terminal. Doing this moves the vacumn can further away from the intake so to give you some adjustment room.
Also, it may be easier for some to just move the plug wires around 1 terminal on the dist cap then readjust the timing.
