Re: My Build Thread (year+) on 71 Jimmy 4x4

Those darn TrailReady guys were running a closeout on there steel beadlocks and sucked me in. Oh well these are really bad-azz and im tickled to get rid of the 80's style sawblade rims.....

Long story short....its quite a process getting these mounted up correctly in the garage. I added 12oz of balancing dyna-beads to each wheel as well. wonder how its gonna work...but heard good things about them.

my buddy there been through all the build...have to give him the second set of keys when she finally done

These are right up my alley

Hell yeah get your butts up here for some wheeling/camping...Ive got a bottemless cooler and extra bedroom anytime! By 2011 I should have the kinks worked out on mine - get to planning Burt

Re: My Build Thread (year+) on 71 Jimmy 4x4

Picked up my D-lines yesterday. Got some nice heavy wall tube and 1350's all the way around. Milled the np205 Front output to change over from the GM
3V type stocker. The D60 front and np205 Rear changed from 1310. The 14bff had a 1350 on it already...

The cage has been the side project inbetween other things. BroncoBob sent me eight 4x4 x 1/4" plates to use for the feet pads, so just getting the 32 holes drilled in that thick stuff was a job. I am making my own underbody backing plates for everything with the same bolt pattern but about 1/2" different around the edges so it doesnt try and scissor through the sheet metal as much.

Bob made all the hoops about 3" taller than stock for me so I could set it the way I want...which means I get to do some tube cutting. I decided to rake it about 2" overall from back to front, which is just noticable - Dont want nothing looky saggy out back :-) Gives the back seats more headroom as well

When you start this job, a handfull of c-clamps, a couple levels, and especially a Laser is the way to roll im convinced. Marked everything with a sharpie via laser line and then tacked the tube on the marks and checked angles. So far so good!

Will have a bunch done after this weekend to post up....

Re: My Build Thread (year+) on 71 Jimmy 4x4

If ever I built an off-roadn' Blazer, my friend, I'd want it to be your trucks twin. Without all the technical drivetrain detail (more than I could manage to do),your Blazer is what I've always had pictured as a cool ride to own.

Re: My Build Thread (year+) on 71 Jimmy 4x4

Thanks man! I've had alot of fun making her just the way I pictured in my mind as what I thought was cool.

Ive learned a hell of a-lot about how things work and go together since I started too, which has already turned out to be pretty valuable in real life other than just my rig....The drivetrain detail is a long hard process, but you cant make a rig "look" this way and still function day to day without it

Re: My Build Thread (year+) on 71 Jimmy 4x4

Man got behind on my pic taking, but will try to catch up now...

Ok so i rewired the entire truck, and when I say entire I mean every single switch and wire there is, including the blinkers and hazard in the column right down to the spark plug wires.

The Autowire kit has you widen your fuse-box hole to fit the new bigger panel - and then everything after that is running lines to the correct spot, trimming to length and putting on the clips or sockets. Its pretty easy as far as the directions and proper components being included and all labled in the kit are really impressive I thought.

I went ahead and wrapped everything in loom / zip ties so nothing could rub which took me several days of work to finish. I even color coded the looms so battery/alt/starter connections are in red for hot lol. Of course the wires themselves are correctly colored already for the year - but makes it faster to figure out which loom to open if you ever need to - who knows

That connection hanging right under the column you see is nothing but extra Ignition / Batt / Acces connections for your other goodies. there is also about a dozen extra fuse block spots if you need more. Love it

Various new wire shots - everything is included in the kit - even your headlight and dimmer switches.

First pic is my LED bulbs in various correct colors

Re: My Build Thread (year+) on 71 Jimmy 4x4

Here is the rats nest of wires that i pulled out of the truck.

I also did the 1-ton master/booster swap - the old 1/2 ton stock brakes are on the floor there.

And I pulled the dist / coil and did the 65k HEI instal with internal coil and 10.5 mm wires

(Just to prove I really meant EVERY SINGLE WIRE ON THE TRUCK IS BRAND NEW) haha

Also if you look close you will see a 144 amp csi alternator so I can power it all mo' better - the stock one i pulled out was only like 45 amps thats ridiculous. I used 4 gauge battery cables on that new alt so they could handle the juice

Re: My Build Thread (year+) on 71 Jimmy 4x4

Thanks gentlemen- raw hided it all around the subdivision on saturday stomping the brakes and slamming the gears to see if I could brake something.

So far so good ! First time its moved in about 2 years. Shoulda seen how many people hit the sidewalks to take a look-see. Had numerous ride requests today - My son Jaxon is pretty proud of his monster truck with all the neighbor kids lol.

Makes it all worth it

Very cool!!!
I'd been thinking about adding a side toolbox to mine & wondered how it'd look...now I know; think I'll do the same.

I wondered how they would look too, sticking up above the rail. I have to tell you it is really growing on me. It's a lifesaver too for all the tools and junk you have to have with you, that you need safe/sound and dry and out of sight for those that may walk off with something. I can stand on the beadlock ring to look into the box on both sides so its not even an issue for convenience as well.
