pro's n con's hydraulic or linkage clutch

Id like to hear your imput, every truck I've owned had a threaded adjusting rodto adjust the cluch., my 62 is hydrolic. and while everything is apart at the moment Id like to know if its worth keeping it original or should I switch it over?I do know that newer trucks have hydrolic cluches and when they go theres no warning. Keeping it original is not a priority.

It really depends on what you intend to modify (or not modify), and how the truck will be used. If you're going to be installing modern design vacuum power brakes you will need to do something. If the truck is a part time hobby or go to the dumps truck, there's nothing wrong with the stock setup.

There have been quite a few threads on this subject in the recent past, so you might want to search for some of those opinions. According to a few posts switching to mechanical linkage is pretty easy, and so is installing the hydraulic clutch from Master Power Brakes. The following link shows another option on how I did my 1960. I did a lot of research on using a hyrdraulic throwout bearing, but in the back of my mind I kept remembering when the one went out in my 1986 S10, and it cost us $750 to have it fixed (it sprayed fluid all over the clutch).

I went with a slave cylinder from a Jeep conversion which uses a conventional clutch fork and keeps adjustment easy, and the fluids out of the bellhousing. Good luck.

Since yours is currently hydraulic, it would be simpler to stay with hydraulic. IMO there is really nothing wrong with them. If you are wanting to add power brakes, I should have the new bracket for that in a week or so.

Ok Thanks guys think I'll stay with hydrolic the truck currently it has a 230 might drop in a rebuilt 307, dont laugh the price was right. The tranny has a P.T.O. for the flatbed dump. And Its a 4x4, she will be worked. Captain sent you a PM!
