Help on Gas Tank and Wheels
I am about to acquire a 1965 C10 swb step-side 2wd project truck. Im probably going to do a rat rod/hot rod project. I am trading my Chevelle for this (its a 72 355ci motor built to the hilt making 400hp give or take. But needs int/ext and trans work. which is why im trading tired of having a car I cant drive and dont have time to work on).
truck has a new 383 stroker (11:1 comp) with a built 4 speed auto and ratchet shifter. So to my questions: Sending unit in tank is bad. How hard it it to replace? Or on a 40+ year old truck should I replace entire tank OR put in a bed mounted fuel cell?? Also I am looking for rims. I understand the bolt pattern is 5x5 (5x127) on these trucks and from what I have found stock rim was a 15x7. This truck is lowered 2inch front and rear. I want to run a 17x8 (4.5 backspace) cragar, wrapped in a 255/45/17. Is there any suggestions on this? Anyone know if ill have clearance issues? Also I was going to order a hood from unlimited products. I believe its a bolt on fiberglass hood, Anyone have any feed back on them? |

Re: Help on Gas Tank and Wheels
Sending units are about $40 and easy to install...just make sure the amount of gas in the tank is below the sending unit's mount point or you will have fuel leaking all over when you remove it.

Re: Help on Gas Tank and Wheels
I work at a chassis shop and have seen fiberglass body parts from lots of manufactures. I would rank unlimited pretty low as far as quality and customer service. All of ther hoods have needed considerably more body work than other brands and are also pretty heavy as far as glass body panels go. With some time they can be made to look and fit okay though.

Re: Help on Gas Tank and Wheels
the stock lugs should be 6 lug if you have something else I don't think it is stock.

Re: Help on Gas Tank and Wheels
Welcome to the forum
Your truck originally came with a 6 x 5.5 wheel bolt pattern. Typically when these trucks are upgraded to disc brakes, they will be the 5 x 5 wheel bolt pattern. Although 6 lug disc brakes are possible. The gas tank is a personal preference. Personally I would remove the in cab tank, and install one under the bed, behind the differential. As for a fiberglass cowl hood, I do not know of any of the manufacturers, that make what I would call a quality hood, that does not need extensive work. Check out this build thread. He bought an Unlimited Products hood. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=326848
