76 swb craigslist find

Hi all, I just acquired this 76 I found on craigslist. It wasn't even listed right, I was skimming through the listings, and there it was posted as an s10. I jumped right on it trying not to show much interest, but I couldn't hold myself much. Looks to me as if it's all there. It's been parked since 2013, seller did not know why as it was the fathers vehicle. I was able to get it to start but carb will starve right away so a $20 fuel pump and $20 carb rebuild kit should get that taken care of. Hopefully after new ignition and misc pieces I can get it smogged.(fingers crossed) No more chant... on to the pictures

Did a little work on the carb, went with a black finish to start a theme under the hood.

going to need a new primary choke

Re: 76 swb craigslist find

carb is back in and new fuel pump. next is gas tank removal and cleaning, also flushing the line to the pump.

not the greatest video but I'm happy...

Re: 76 swb craigslist find

Been ordering parts, getting ready for a budget drop.

still looking for some used drop spindles

anyone know if cutting coils without replacing spindles will affect alignment?

Yes. The toe-in/toe/out won't typically change all that much, but camber can change noticeably from cutting coils.

Re: 76 swb craigslist find

Spring drop can be aligned. If you're thinking of cutting coils, don't do more than 1. Here's what 150 miles with 1 cut coil do to low pro 20's.

Is that before or after alignment?

Before. The guy that did the alignment was a truck guy, treated it like it was his own.

Re: 76 swb craigslist find

Been working on a fuel issue. had to remove the paint from the carb and pull it apart again for another clean up. between the old gas and the paint everything was getting dirty. Carb is now back on but I am still having trouble with idle and startup. I have drained as much of the old gas and filled the tank with 91 octane to compensate the leftover gas still in it.

When cranking the engine it will only run on certain occasions. If I add some gas straight to the carb the truck will start and run. It idles very high if I accelerate it a little and stays accelerated.

I am thinking of replacing the float needle with the original and see what happens.

Re: 76 swb craigslist find

I had that happen with my dually after I replumbed the fuel system. I fed it gas into the carb for a couple minutes until it would stay running. As far as the high idle, your idle screw could be turned up to high.

Re: 76 swb craigslist find

finally back at it. ended up having a plugged idle tube assembly. It may have gotten plugged with leftover debris or even paint from the rebuild. Next I was having a cold start issue. Well, when I was tinkering with it, I removed the choke rod while I was taking the air horn off and on. Now with the choke on correctly and the idle adjusted it runs great.

And now the sad part, it's going up for sale. I always do this, start a project, let it sit, then fix it to sell.

Re: 76 swb craigslist find

Ok guys need some help!!!

I am having trouble with the truck idling on a cold start. I have gone through checking that all the choke vacuums are correct. While looking at these ports today i found this ported switch that is not hooked up. Now that makes me wonder if everything else is hooked up right.
