Re: new engine

Thats where it came from(scoggin dickey). I am really happy with them. They even called when it arrived at the dock to let me know it was there. I was going to get the engine kit but bought the carb, intake, and dist. off ebay, saved about $200. Assembly starts today.

Re: new engine

The last one of those I bought , I chose to put a cam upgrade in before I installed it. That was a choice that I had to think about for awhile, because that affects warranty. However, I am not sorry that I did it. The motor runs strong and hard, with that cam and the Performer RPM intake on it.. That was three years ago. I have had a couple of these motors and they provide good service.

Re: new engine

I love my crate engine. I haven't had a bit of trouble but it's a bit different. Others said get a rebuilt but for the money I'm happy with brand new from a reliable company like GM

Re: new engine

I just finished dropping that same engine into my truck about 2 hours ago. I still need to put all of the accessories and everything on it, and hook everything back up, but at least it is in. Too bad the National Weather Service says 100% chance of rain for tomorrow.

When I was checking prices, Summit beat everyone, including Scoggins-Dickey. SD is in Texas, so I would have had to pay tax as well. Summit price was $1359 + $1000 shipping and handling.

Wow, the one I have found is $1999 with chrome valve covers, dip stick, wing nut, etc, plus a Performer intake and a 600 CFM Edlebrock Carb, Mallory HEI, all gaskets and bolts, with only $215 freight shipping. That comes out about the same as what you paid for yours Slonaker. You gotta tell us (or just me!!) how it works out for you. I'm gonna doing this swap on my own with my dad and my older cousin, it's gonna be a great learning experience for me for sure.

Good luck smills tell us how it goes and LOTS of pictures!!!

Oops. I mistyped that. It was $1359 + $100 (not $1000) shipping. That got me the engine and nothing else. By the time you add the extra stuff you listed, it might be about the same.

Jegs has a package about like what you are looking at for about the same price as yours, but their shipping should be less. Search for part # 10067353.

Re: new engine

What are the benifits in an engine with a one piece rear main seal vs. a two piece rear main seal?

The biggest plus is it's less likely to leak with the one peice seal.

A roller engine incorperates a roller cam and roller lifters. Nothing too special.

Re: new engine

FWIW, all '86 and '87 trucks have one piece rear main seals, but they don't have roller cams.

Its a good motor I have one Im going to rebuild in the garage. By the way they head gaskets dont like to be overheated. They will blow if you do.

Re: new engine

Put the same engine in mine back in 95. I've got 120,000 miles on it and still going strong. I paid 1175.00 at Hardy Chevolet. The second week I had it I didnt put the radiator cap back on and overheated it with no damage done. I have run mobil 1 in it since 50,000 miles. No oil leaks since I put cast aluminun valve covers on. It's the best purchase I've ever made.
I am thinking about vortec heads for it.

Re: new engine

Well I didn't do the over heating my little brother did. He is not a truck person and didn't pay attention to the gagues. So I dont know how many times he may have over heated it. I just hope the heads and block are not cracked.

Re: new engine

I only overheated it that one time. It did start to knock I pulled over turned it off poped the hood and there was the cap laying on the radiator support.
Good luck with the rebuild I hope it's only the head gasket.
