truck bed questions.

OK, so here is a little back story. I've got a 64 c10 long fleet. I bought her with the bed completely disassembled, being told all the parts were there and good. Come to find out it was missing the rear sill, had the wrong cross sills, as well as none of the pieces that go between the wood, and no hardware. Long story short. I am in the process of resembling the bed. That being said I have a couple questions.
1. My rear cross sill is on backorder, can I assemble the bed without the rear sill and put it in later or will that be a massive pain?
2. I am not putting wood in it yet, will do that at a later time. Will the bed mount directly to the sills without any issue and then latter just take the bed back of for wood?
3. Has anyone orders the mar k bed inductions or the classic parts one? If so are they any good or wroth the money? Or do I really need one?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: truck bed questions.

the rear sill is what keeps the tail gate opening square and is also the rear mount to frame, the bedsides will be flopping around with out it. with the tail gate on it will still move a bit. as for no wood the bed will be dropped down and the body lines will be off by about a inch or so but you came make spacers out of wood to put between the frame and braces to raise the bed.

Re: truck bed questions.

The rear sill kinda holds holds everything together back there so I don't know how stable the bed sides would be. You might damage something if you drove the truck very long without the sill. You'll need a spacer of some sort to get everything to line up correctly without the wood. I used body shims, just because I have a lot of them.

Re: truck bed questions.

I am not planning on driving the truck without the rear sill in. I am wanting/ needing to get the bed installed so I can have more room in my garage to build the motor. If I were to install it later would it be really hard? How thick of spacers would I need? Also I saw on lmc what they called bed wear strips that go on the outside of the wood, next to the bed. Anyone know what those are and if I would need therm.

Re: truck bed questions.

If you leave everything loose you should be able to get the sill in later. You can use 3/4 inch anything you want to make spacers.

Re: truck bed questions.

The rear sill holds the entire back of the bed together and also is what carries the weight of the sides and holds it to the frame. Till you get one it may be easier to leave the bed disassembled and just lay the sides on the cross sills.

Re: truck bed questions.

Where did you order the sill from? Call Mar-K and they have them in stock ready to ship!!

They are in Oklahoma so only a couple days to get to you.

I bought all my bed stuff from them!
