Question Looking for original guages with white faces

At one time, I believe that there was a board member that was refurbing the guage clusters, to use original guages, but have white faces painted on with the original lines.

Anybody recall what I'm talking about? Or am I crazy???

Look up Byrd. He does them. Here is the gauges in my '69 C-30 car hauler. I bought a kit from Ebay for $20 and did my own.

Re: Looking for original guages with white faces

You can buy em on ebay. The seller is whitegauges.net

I bought his kit and did my own. The kit comes with everything to do a 5 hole cluster too and he sells tach and vac covers if you need em.

You basically clean the gauges really good, put the stickers in soapy warm water, align them, use a soft cloth to push the bubbles out, then use a hair dryer to "shrink" them to fit. Don't use too much heat, they will melt. Also, you want to paint white in areas where the stickers won't cover first (they're not perfect.) You also get an A/C controller one too, so I did that as well.

Here's mine.

Yea, whitegauges.net will work. I bought mine from Durangedesigns.com. I think they are now the same site. Here's a link to the ones for our trucks. http://www.whitegauges.net/whitegaug...productsID=976

Re: Looking for original guages with white faces

Here's mine. Top 3 gauges are factory and work fine. I repainted the faces white and touched up the needles with a little more day-glow paint.

The lower 4 are aftermarket (Sun Pro I think). I tossed out the nearly 40 year old failure prone flexible wiring and hard-wired everything. Took a while but it works like a charm.

I bought one from Randy (Byrd) on Ebay and they look even better in person. Great work and it was well worth what I paid for it being that you could tell there was a lot of pride and attention to detail on his finished work. I have yet to install it, but I am sure it will look great once I do.

Re: Looking for original guages with white faces

i see whitegauges sells the LED's, i'm gonna get some, but is there a cheaper place? 5 bucks for a few LED's to replace a few cent bulb is a lil expensive, but def. worth it if there is no other option...

Re: Looking for original guages with white faces

I got my 4 refractor LED's off ebay. Each bulb has 5 LED's in them. They run about $3 each bulb and the light dispersement is nice and even. The tach is a Sunpro 3.5".

Re: Looking for original guages with white faces

Those guages look great, but also pretty bright. Any problems with the LED's becoming annoying after an hour or so behind the wheel?

Nope, mine are dimmable but the pic makes them look brighter than they are.

I use the decals like the others, but also do a host of other things like testing, blasting, painting, different lense, lots of TLC, refurb the speedo and zero it out.
