looking at a 350 reman long block

I am looking at a 350 remanufactured long block, they are advertising 275HP with 2bbl carb, and up to 290 with 4bbl, and headers, following is the set up

"the cam we use is a cs 179r .447 lift 222 dur @.050 114 lobe c/l
stock valve train
compression ratio is 9.25 to 1
bored .030 or .040"

Is this a good choice for my SWB C10? I would use my 600cfm holley 4bbl, and headers, and would also upgrade to HEI.

I would like a little bit of a lope at idle, but not at the expense of a good balance of power and economy. If I go this way, should I specify a different cam?

I had been exploring rebuilding my 283 (which outside of machine shop work, I can do), but the cost is going to be quite a lot more, and the horsepower is going to be quite a bit less.

FYI, I plan to run a T5, and while I have no plans to drive it like a teenager, I do plan to pull a camper 4-5 times a year which would weigh in the neighborhood of 3300lbs max GVW.

That sounds like decent power, and if you can get that cheaper than machining/parts to rebuild the 283 I'd jump on it, that cam listed will pretty much sound like a stock one tho, if I'm not wrong it's on account of the wide lobe angle, had one in a 283 sounded like a stocker.

CraigRR, don't know what price range your looking at, have you looked at the GM crate motors, good value for the money. brand new engines 300 hp plus starting at about $3200, most of the engine builders can't compete.

cross town in Toronto, under 1700, plus an exchange, or a core charge of 500
wondering though if I could choose a cam that would give me a slightly irregular heartbeat at idle, without making it drink fuel the way I like to drink beer!

Comp cams has section on thheir site that you tell them what you have and what you want do , and they will get back to you with a cam grind to suit your needs. Just a little FYI
