Found this 65, but they wont sell
I have seen this truck sitting in this field for years... The house has been vacant and the trees are 20 feet high growing thru it. Kids are knocking the windows out with rocks, someone has helped themselves to the seat and other items. I spent quite abit of time asking the neighbors " who owns that truck", everyone says the people just moved off and left it. I tracked down the owner of the truck and he won't sell it, because he is going to "resurrect it" someday. If it sits much longer there wont be anything left to restore. I just checked on it again, two years after he said he wont sell and it is still sitting there.

it could scrap for $250... show him the money. he might be more agreeable when he sees some green. sometimes the po likes to know that you are going to really fix this one up.
can't tell but it looks like its got a cool grill guard and the bed you've been wanting. i think persistence will win out. and you'll end up with another project. i've got a similar thing going on over here. a fifty 3/4 5 window with a homemade welding bed. drives me crazy, but i'm not giving up. |

Re: Found this 65, but they wont sell
There's a fastback torino sitting in a fence row close to where I live with a big "not for sale" sign on it. Been sitting for years, rusting down. My boss is sort of the same. He has a 68 and a 73 roadrunner sitting in the corner of his yard, uncovered, just rusting. He says he's waiting until he has a place with a garage. We'll see....

Re: Found this 65, but they wont sell
There was this old guy not far from me he had 30s ,40s and 50s cars maybe thirty or so in his yard and behind his house. People asked him if he would sell one or parts, but he never would . Finely he died last year and his brother in law sold them off to a tow yard guy. But by this time they were all crap rusted throughout . The only thing I would guess is to savage what little parts were good then sell them at the swap meet.

go and report it as a abandon vehicle they’ll contact the owner if they don’t move it then you can claim it and save it.

Well I work for a city so....
...Time to call up your Code Enforcement: To report high weeds, grass, or dilapidated structures call the Compliance officer at (918) 456-0651 ext. 267 Then maybe hit up that owner again once he is being hassled to tow it out of there. There is nothing more hazardous than an abandoned vehicle. I mean a kid could get tetanus out there or something! |

Re: Found this 65, but they wont sell
I grew up in rural SC. There were way too many of these cars sitting around like that.
Heck my first car was like that. A 67 SS Chevelle. It sat near a main road in my home town for YEARS. The woman who owned it had moved into a condo type retirement place. The car sat outside in the parking lot. People tried to buy it for years. I went to her door to ask about the car when I was 14. She said I looked like her grandson. She sold it to me for $550. It had piles of newspaper stacked in it (to the ceiling literally). It was bright green, 3 speed with a six cyl (Had no clue it was a SS then). Got it home, got it running. Started working on the body (window channel rust mainly). Got a call from some guy “Are you the guy who bought the car from my Great Aunt? There are some parts to that car at my place if you want them. We’re moving and if you don’t come get them, we’ll scrap ‘em.” My buddy and I rode out there. Turns out the brother of the woman who sold me the car was there when I arrived. The parts? The original 4 speed, 396 (carb to pan) and misc stuff. Then I got the story on the car. Woman’s husband worked at a Chevy dealership. He also drag raced. He ordered a ’67 SS 396 Chevelle to race. Stripper car. Radio delete. Heater delete. 4 speed, posi, 375hp 396. Manual steering, manual brakes. Bench Seat. No gauges. No trim. He raced it for years, basically stock. Then drove it some. The gas shortage in ’73 prompted him to park it. Then some time after his wife needed a car to drive. He swapped a 3 speed and 6 cyl into it out of a wrecked low mile wagon the dealership had. Then he painted it GREEN (her favorite color). She drove that car for almost 10 years that way. Her husband died, the car got parked, fast forward and I bought it. No I don’t still have it. YES I regularly kick myself for that. After restoring it as a kid, and racing and driving the wheels off, a guy offered my BIG money for it (this was @ 1990) so big money then wasn’t the big money now, but it was A LOT Of money to a kid just out of High School. |

Re: Found this 65, but they wont sell
Guy here tried to buy a tractor, was sitting under the edge of a shed roof, where water ran onto it off the roof. Owner would not sell it, "gonna restore it"-he went by last month-water had filled the engine, froze & busted-under the tractor was a huge pile of con rods, oil pan, block pieces, etc.
I just don't understand. There's a nice 66 in the town near me, been setting 15+ yrs. Code guy says the owner is the mayor's uncle. |
