Re: stock speakers

they make a pair of 3.5's that mount in a bracket to bolt under most g.m. center speaker grills.. year one has them.. haven't looked under trucks, but they had it for a bodys..
I'd guess g.m. dash speaker was the same size back then''

Re: stock speakers

Here's what I did. Retrosound 5x7 with dual voice coils. Not fancy, but workable and sounds decent. Don't use the radio much, mostly talk radio and ball games.

I also orderd one of their stock replacement speakers for my original am radio sounds good got mine in like 4days.. All I get is talk radio news and one oldies station But then again the sound of a BigBlock exhaust system is music to my ears and everyone around me It depends too if your going with the original stereo or after market to get the right speaker for the job.

Re: stock speakers

gotcha, the reason i ask is i have a pair of 4.5 rounds that were in our tractor for a year but weren't quite enough power (stepped up to 6.5's). just curious if with a little manipulation i could make them work. obviously would need a plate to mount them and something to cover them but i do have a dashpad to help with this.

Thanks All
David

I have one on order with "Brothers" that is a Dual Voice Coil and is a DIRECT REPLACEMENT for that OEM Speaker. I'm going to use it along with the "Kick Panel Speakers" I bought from them.
The Kick Panel Speakers are great, but they mount by the Vents and face each other directly, so for me I really had to CRANK em ip tro get the sound out of them.
With this In Dash Speaker, that will help balance out the sound a bit more.

Re: stock speakers

You should check out "Partsexpress" for speakers, they always have great speakers at very good prices. Most name brand speakers are made by the same few companies in Taiwan and China, they just badge them as their own, if you look at Part Express you can find just lot of Buyout speakers cheap! These are the same speakers that name brand companies overstocked and sell cheap. I never buy name brand drivers and I buy a lot of drivers from part express, I build very custom loud speakers and use their house brand, they are called "Dayton", they are many of the same drivers sold by very high end companies like Usher and ScanSpeak only badged a different name. They sound just as good if not better than drivers from Name brand speakers you would pay twice as much for. Most the time with speakers you are paying for a name.

If I understand your question correctly, its not an actual "Pair".
It is 2 speakers that are within 1 casing, that is the same size as the Stock speaker. You simply remove the Stock Speaker and replace it with the new (aftermarket one).
Same size and bolts right in with no modifications.
Then instead of 1 SINGLE SPEAKER, you now have 2 occupying the same space.

Re: stock speakers

When I first got my 71, I made a plywood plate that held (2) 4" refugee speakers from another vehicle and mounted that where the factory speaker went in the dash.

....Ten years later, I made another plywood plate to hold (2) 4" x 6" JBL coax speakers. I'll try to get a picture of the 4x6 install together.
