hope your day was better (pics)

i was on my way home from work, van in front of me couldn't decide if he needed the exit ramp or not, he stopped in the middle of the road. i got stopped in time, the car behind me apparently wasn't paying attention, this was yesterday on the dry road, car was still probably going 50-60.

I dunno why people cant figure out to slow down in the winter time. Some people just dont know that they should change their driving habits for conditions. Sorry to see that. At least the headlights are still good

Terrible way to get your bed shortened! Dang. What kind of pickup was that before it became the crunchmobile?

Who woulda guessed an S-10 would both hold up, and fold up?
At least your OK...get coppies of your med records on this...keep everything in a file where nothing else will get into it. You'll probably need it for court.

A few pics of the damage on regular 35mm film is a dang good idea too. Digi cam pics are not admisable in court...too easy to manipulate.

WOW! so glad your allright. Sometimes it amazes me some of the wrecks that people only get minor injuries from. Friend going 120 in a 5.0 mustang caught air and went out of control.... no seatbelt... no injuries. only scratch was when he ran from the cops so he wouldn't get a DUI. you guys shoulda seen the car. oh well, every loss there's some small gain IT WASN'T A CHEVY!!!

Later

No. 1, glad you weren't hurt any more that you indicated. You are lucky, to say the least.

No. 2, what gives people the impression that not hearing noises from the streets that are covered with snow/ice/both, that they can emulate race car drivers at Indy? You'd think that they would know better, huh? Down here in the South, ice induces a new way of driving....seeing that we have more ice, than snow. Snow is way easier to drive on, yet there are some bonafide idiots that just have to see if the ice is really as slick as people say it is. Duh!

Oh, I have seen some Northerners who are driving through when we have had ice/snow/etc., reduced to rank amateurs when they realize that the snow is on top of the ice we had earlier...usually when they go spinning off the freeway and into the medians or ditches. Not that us Southerners are any better, mind you. We just had the benefit of knowing that there's ice under the snow.

I hope nobody reads this and thinks that I am any different, or better than anyone else. I am not. I am just human, and I make mistakes, too.

Hope you or the other person has good insurance. My first car (a clean '54 Ford 2-dr) got sandwiched between a '64 Malibu and a nearly-new '65 Impala, waaaaaaaaaaaay back in Feb. '65. Roads were dry, but it was dark. Seems this guy from Oklahoma wasn't paying enough attention to his driving and drove his '62 Falcon into the back of the Impala, propelling it into me and me into the Malibu. I had no insurance....and the State of Arkansas didn't require it....just proof of financial responsibility. At that time, "Proof of Financial Responsibility" meant that my dad and I EACH had to (1) cough up over $1600 for the damage to the Impala and the Malibu, or (2) get those two drivers to sign a release form, absolving me of any financial obligation to either of them. Ever consider talking someone into releasing you from financial responsibility after you've had an auto accident? Dad must have said the right things, 'cause we sure didn't have the money. The guy from Oklahoma in the Falcon had to fix all three vehicles, plus his. Kinda sucked to be him, huh?

Oh, I have insurance, now.

I have a huge advantage when I drive in the snow and ice....I'm used to not stopping when I hit the brake pedal...no one else on the street can say that.

Hope your OK. I mean, it may take a few days to realize if anything is wrong.

Everyone is right about making sure your ducks are in a row and maintaining documentation. However, unless the police report indicates negligence on your part, you will likely get a reasonable check cut for you. Just remember, most states have a two year statute to settle insurance injury claims from accidents. If you don't need the money, wait for a while to make sure you really are OK. Better to have someone else pay for your Dr. bills if you have any.

Sorry so long. Glad you're OK!
