Man don't cut holes in the doors...mount them somewhere else. Have you consider plastic kick panels with speakers??

Re: Best audio sound option?

on mine i have a nice 6x9 in a box under the radio...... its kinda weird looking because it has an aftermarket heater under the heater i attached my stereo and under my stereo i attached the speaker box. its pretty loud , if i were you id try to make as much use of the space under the seat as possible, later in my build i hope to get two flat model sub woofers to go under the seat one on each side and in the middle i will have the amp, on the doors i might just get some 5 1/4" speakers since the PO already had holes in the doors to fit them, as for 6x9's i would like to get one for in dash were the original speaker went and maybe some tweeters by the kick panels , now if you didn't keep the gas tank behind the seat that leaves you some good space to fit a small speaker box or maybe some 6x9's

Re: Best audio sound option?

dont use 6x9s you will get a better sound with some 6.5s.
I bought some Rockford fosgate 6.5s for my 84; made some boxes for them and mounted them in the cab corners, man they sound great!

and i agree do not mount them in the doors, My doors were cut by my dad back in the day, but its not a great location

Re: Best audio sound option?

Speakers low in the doors, especially 6x9's are a poor choice.

DON"T DO IT!!!!

Rare to find a truck that doesn't have a hacked up radio hole in the dash and gaping speaker holes in the doors, that was the first thing I looked at when I was searching for one...

Re: Best audio sound option?

mine already has holes, so I don't feel like re-engineering the wheel. If you have speakers in the door, I highly advice sound deadening the door, and bracing the door skin with a wooden ring for the speaker. Mine was done poorly by the p.o, and rattles and doesn't provide good sound. I'm doing this to mine, since it already has alpine 6x9's in the doors, and I don't want to lose my foot vents by getting kick panels.

Thanks, yes the truck already had 5 inch speakers in doors. I am putting in some alpine 6.5s...your advice is well taken...I have the sound proofing material and I will put in the wood backing .
