Re: 69-70 NOS grill set F/S

I'm anxiously awaiting part # and pictures. Are they 69 or 70 grilles?

No interest? This is a sweet grill assembly! I was literally the first person to open this particular box....this has the anodized finish, excellent black insert trim and no damage.

Most of the later NOS inner grilles are actually shaped like the '70 inner grilles,... But are painted in the '69 colors.
I have one just like this one.
It has the raised areas molded into it like the '70 grilles.

I've never seen a true NOS '69 inner grille.

How many years did GM keep producing these grills? I just noticed the date on the box...

Re: 69-70 NOS grill set F/S

I was still buying almost all NOS stuff in the late eighties. I don't know after that as I took a few years off.

Actually some parts went obsolete, and then came back available. I always assumed if they had enough inquiries they made another run. If I needed something, I would go in every so often and make an inquiry. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.

I think the 69 and 70 inner grilles are the same, the only difference is the way they were painted. All the ones I have seen have the raised (recessed?) areas.

The original '69 inner grilles had no raised sections.
My red '69 had an original grille.
I never found a nicer replacement for it except the 1970 version.

This is a good thread on the subject:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=334461

QUOTE:
Actually its the other way around. All of the new replacement grilles are molded like '70 grilles. They all have the raised ribs, but on the 69's they paint the grille grey and don't paint the raised ribs silver, and on the 70's they paint them black and paint the raised ribs silver. On original '69 grilles, there are no ribs. They are flat on the face. Here are pics from above again. The top grill is an original paint '69 grille, and the bottom is an original paint '70. I have (3) 69's and (4) 70's here, and I have confirmed this with all of them none. None of the original '69 grills have the ribs. In today's aftermarket or so called new OEM parts, there is no correct '69 or '70 outer grille shell (they were absolutely the same) or a '69 inner grill available. Its a shame GM is licensing this stuff as OEM, but they are not correct restoration parts.

Sorry to the OP for the thread hijack,...

Re: 69-70 NOS grill set F/S

No hijacking IMO....I'm learning some cool info along with others on this topic too. I knew about the difference about the extended black section going through the headlight opening vs. stopping vertical. This box IMO appears to be a re-box by GM at some point....I've seen that many times before where GM either supersedes the part # or reboxes the vintage part at a later date....and for whatever reason I don't know.

I meant the "NOS" ones, or replacement GM parts are the same. No replacement 69 inner available, as stated above.

I agree,... but all NOS versions were painted like the '69 model.

Re: 69-70 NOS grill set F/S

Before going obsolete from GM they could be had for $1038.00. Now, none to be found.....at least on the anodized aluminum outer grill-not sure about the inner.

Re: 69-70 NOS grill set F/S

The NOS inner I purchased a couple years ago from a board member has the raised areas but it was not painted silver, it is unpainted.

Re: 69-70 NOS grill set F/S

Don't want to hijack the F/S thread, but here's what I have on 1970 Suburban. After looking at other link, isn't this "original" 1970? or not?

Inner grill is original "or repainted to look like an original", outter grill is not an original. Either aftermarket or GM replacement.
